1. may的用法
（1）may 表示“可以”，即表示说话人同意，许可或请求
You may do it right now.
May I watch TV now? Yes, please. No, you mustn’t.
（2）may 表示可能性
He may not be free now.
The police may know the way.
（3）may 的否定形式一般用can’t
He can’t be in the classroom.
2. can表示说话人同意许可或请求常用Can I …..? Could I …..?
Can I borrow your ruler?
Could I open the window?
3. Ask for directions.询问方向
Excuse me. Where is the nearest …..?
Excuse me. Is there a ….. near here?
Excuse me. Which is the way to….?
Excuse me. How can I get to…..?
Excuse me. Could you tell me the way to…..?

4. Giving directions.指点方向
Walk along this road.

It’s about 100 metres away.

I think you need a No 1 bus.

on one’s way to …. 在路上
I met her on my way to school.
On her way back home , she found a bag.
He’s on his way to get his book back.
6. He’s sick in hospital. 他生病住院了。
You look ill/ sick these days.
She’s visiting her sick uncle in hospital.
注意只有sick 用于定语，ill不可以。
get sick of = get tired of 厌倦于
I’m getting sick of pop music.
He’s getting tired of city life.
还要注意in hospital不等于in the hospital
类似用法有：
go to school go to town in bed in town in prison

go into 进入，into 表示动作的方向， 意为 “到…里面”

make one’s way back to… 走向往回返的路上
make up 组成

make a fine 出头
start to do 动词不定式作宾语 agree, hope , decide, need, fail, want, begin

understand 后还可用 what /that从句
