初中教学案例(Junior High School Teaching Case) Luoping Middle School, Yang Xuefen(罗坪乡中心学校,杨雪芬) T-teacher S-student Ss-students I’m very glad to share my lesson here .It is from Unit 7, Go for it, the second period. Ⅰ.Analysis of the teaching material and the learners The content of the material is about the usage of the present progressive tense, which is also an important grammar point. In view of the purpose of the comprehensive training of language skills, I recombined the teaching materials. In this period ,I taught 2a,2b,2c,Grammar Focus and 3a.I arranged 2d and 3b in the next period.2a and 2b are listening practice .2d is a speaking practice.3a is an exercise of the present progressive tense. My students in Class111 are lively and active. They tend to like the open class environment. So, I spread my teaching in the form of activities .They had a preliminary understanding of present progressive tense ago. Because I mentioned in previous class. For this reason, I thought it is not difficult for them to learn this period well. Ⅱ.Learning objectives According to the above analysis, I set the following learning objectives. Knowledge goals: 1. learn new words (cook, again) by heart.2.find out the formation of present progressive tense by presentation.3.be able to describe what sb(s) doing by practice.4.consolidate previous knowledge in the texts. Ability goals: foster Ss’ speaking, listening, communicative and writing ability. Moral goals: enhance Ss’ confidence to learn English. Among all the objectives, being able to describe what sb(s) doing using present progressive tense is essential for the Ss. It is the focus of this lesson. And in this lesson, the listening and speaking practice would take up most of the time because it is a good and important way to get information in our daily life. In this practice, Ss’ skill of note-taking can be improved. It is vital for Ss during the whole process of English study. Ⅲ. Teaching procedure ㈠Lead-in(7mins) Ss’ limited speech time T: OK .Our class is beginning, please be quiet .Welcome the student on duty today—Mason (Ss clapped their hands to welcome him).All of you needs to listen to his speech carefully. You can take notes while listening if you need. (Some Ss took out their scratch paper) (The student makes the short speech)(3mins)(In this process, I also write some notes on the blackboard) T: OK, good lecturer. Now, please try to answer me a question. ① How many people are there in his family? Who are they? First, tell me what is the meaning of this sentence? S1:I know.他家有几个人?他们分别是谁? T:Yes ,you are right. Now, who can answer me? S2: There are four people in his family. They are my father, my mother, my sister and I. T: Good. They are my father, my mother, my sister and me .Do you agree with her? So, tell me your answer. S3:应该是They are his father ,his mother ,his sister and him. T: Very clever, S2, do you know why? S2:I know .在转述时需要转换人称。 T:②OK, what else did you get from his speech? S4:He said “Today is sunny. He like it, because he can swim.” T: Yes. He said“It is sunny today. He likes it, because he can swim”. Any more? S5:Mike , Jerry and Jack are his favorite friends. S6:He doesn’t like history, it is boring. T: Can you find any mistakes in his speech? S7:people的单复数一样,但他用的是peoples. T: Careful girl. Any more ? No more? But I find a mistake. We know can的后面接什么?Yes. But he used swimming. ㈡Presentation(8mins) T: Who wants to sing a song for us? OK, you, please continue to sing without stopping, OK? 1. OK, answer me. What is she doing? Yes, Kate is singing a song. Next, I want to ask a boy to sing for us. Who wants to try? Now, answer me .What is he doing? Yes, Jack is singing a song for us. Now, Kate and Jack , can you sing a song together for us? OK. Answer me together ,what are they doing? 2. T: From these sentences , what can you find? S8:他们都是进行时。 S9:他们都表示正在进行的事情。 S10:他们都是be 动词加动词ing 构成的。 T: You all did a good job. When we describe what sb(s) is/are doing, we use the sentence structure of “S﹢be﹢v-ing”. It is called present progressive tense. ㈢Practice(23mins) 1. Ask Ss to translate some sentences combing with Grammar Focus. T: Now, please translate some Chinese sentences into English sentences. Are you ready? Now, please look at Grammar Focus. Let’s read these sentences together. 2. ⑴T: Open your books. Look at the pictures in 2a.What can you get? For example, the boy is making a call in the first picture. S11: The woman is cooking in the second picture. S12: The girl is talking on the phone in the third picture. S13: The girl is watching TV in the fourth picture. S14: The boy is playing computer games in the fifth picture. S15: The man is playing basketball in the seventh picture. T:You all did a wonderful job. Now, you will hear a conversation on the phone. You need to answer me some questions. ①Who is the boy in the first picture?②Whom is he calling now? ③Who answered the phone?(I write the questions on the blackboard and ask 2Ss to do it on the blackboard) Play the tape. Check answers. T: Now, who has the answers? Q1, who knows? Yes, it is Jim.Q2, who knows? Yes, the call is to the boy’s Uncle Joe.Q3, who wants to try? Yes, Linda answered the call. ⑵T: Now, please listen and number the pictures (1-4) and then ask a student to show his or her answers. 3. T:⑴ There are 6 people mentioned in the conversation .They are Uncle Joe, Jeff, Mary, Aunt Sally, Jim and Linda .Guess what are they doing?(This design is to let Ss speak present progressive tense as much as possible.) S16: I think Uncle Joe is playing computer games. S17: Mary is making a call…. T: Class, pay attention to the word “cook”. She is cooking. She is a cook. Do you know the 2 sentences’ meaning?From the 2sentences, we can know it can be used as noun and verb. Guess the meaning of “cooker”? Yes ,its Chinese meaning is 厨具not厨师,OK? T: ⑵ Listen again and match the names with the activities. T: ⑶ Now, please read after the tape sentence-by sentence and ask single Ss to explain their Chinese meaning sentence-by-sentence and check 2b’s answers at the same time. Ask Ss to look at the listening material and read loudly together. Role- play the conversation, T is Jim and Ss are Linda and then change their roles. T: ⑷ Now, work with your partner. You need to ask your partner 3qustions at least. (T needs to provide help and guidance in this step) 4. Help Ss to clear out the meaning of 3a.Then give them 3mins to complete 3a and ask 2Ss to do it on the blackboard. T: Now, please do 3a by yourselves and I will ask 2Ss to do it on the blackboard. Who want to try? Check answers. T: Look at the blackboard ,let’s check answers together.Q1,is it right?Why?Q2,Yes or NO?Why?Q3,right?Why?Q4,right?Why?The last one, right? Why? Then ask Ss to read these sentences together. ㈣Production(7mins) T: Now, work in groups. Look at your classmates carefully and talk about what are they doing?(4mins) T: Time is up .Who wants to share firstly? S18: Teacher, let me try. Look, my English teacher is standing in front of the blackboard. Listen, the bird is singing near our classroom. My classmate Sweet Baby is playing. (Ss laugh) T: Yes, he is playing, he is folding origami cranes. How caring Sweet Baby is. Do you think so, too? ㈤Homework Recite 2b’s conversation. ㈥Writing on the blackboard Unit 7 It’ s raining. What is she doing? She is singing. What is he doing? He is singing. What are they doing? They are singing. Present progressive tense: S﹢be﹢v-ing﹢其他 cook v.烹饪 n.厨师 cooker n.厨具 ㈦ Teaching reflection To sum up, I think this class was an integration of reading, listening, speaking and writing .If I spread my class in the order of the teaching material, it was not the result. So, I think we should add or delete or recombine the teaching material according to the principle of a variety of skills training. Maybe, this kind of teaching is time-consuming. But I think it is worthy for Ss’ long development. Many of my design were spread under this consideration, such as the lead-in part. I insist on creating more chances to let Ss speak, listen, use English as much as possible. This point is very important. The purpose of learning English is to use English. To do it well, T needs to communicate with Ss in English in class and in daily life. It is not easy to communicate with Ss freely. Most of Ss are afraid of specking English and talking with their teacher in English. So, we need to strengthen their confidence. We can give them big hands in their English class activities and daily life. In my opinion, an English teacher should be ebullient, lovely, facetious and tolerant and kind. In this class, a student was not learning, he just was folding origami cranes. But, I didn’t blame him, I only said: Yes, he is playing, he is folding origami cranes. How caring Sweet Baby is. Do you think so, too? To some extent, a good English teacher is like a good performer. I believe my class will be more welcomed by my Ss if I insist on creating, reflecting and studying. Of course, this class had some shortages and needs to be modified better. For example, some steps didn’t produce the best possible results because of limited time.
