1980,was a primary treatment plant that had an average treatment,capacity of 274,000 m,3,/day,.It treated sewage from Taipei City household connections and interception stations.In order to comply with the new,EPA Effluent Standards,which took effect on January 1,1998,the Treatment Plant was closed on April 7,1998,and the upgrading project began.,17,Renew Project Schedule,The Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant,Upgrading,Project includes civil and architectural engineering work,treatment system engineering work and landscape engineering work.The civil engineering and landscaping work were completed on May 4 and June 29 2004 respectively,with the entire project scheduled for completion at the end of 2006.,18,Type of Treatment,Sewage is treated using a deep-tank multi-stage aeration level 2 biological treatment method before being disinfected and discharged into the Danshui River.Sludge is thickened,digested and dehydrated before recycling and reuse.,19,Design Capacity and Water Quality,Design treatment capacity:Average 500,000 m,3,/day.2 millions population equivalent(P.E.),Design Water Quality:Influent:BOD5=180mg/L,SS=180mg/L.Effluent:BOD5 20mg/L,SS 20mg/L.,Recycled Water:10,000 m,3,/day.,20,Process Description(1),A volume of effluent from the Dihua Sewage Pumping Station is diverted to the Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant.Then the sewage passes through fine bar screens to remove coarse materials.It then flows into primary clarifiers to remove the greater part of the suspended solids and a small portion of the organic matter remained in the sewage.,The effluent from the clarifier flows into aeration basins and then secondary clarifiers to remove organic matter in the sewage stream.,21,Process Description(2),The effluent from the secondary clarifiers is disinfected with sodium hypochlorite to remove pathogens before discharged into the Danshui River.After sand filtration,10,000 cubic meter per day of effluent are recycled for reuse within the plant.,Night soil is thickened for processing with primary sludge and secondary sludge,then anaerobically digested and dehydrated to become sludge cake;it is then recovered for a variety of reuses such as:incineration,brick making,compost,cement mix and soil improvements.,22,Process Description(3),Part of the biogas produced by anaerobic digester is used for digester mixing and the boiler for maintaining the feeding&digester temperature.Excess biogas is provided to the Dihua Heated Swimming Pool for use with heating.,23,Engineering Characteristics(1),The major processing unit in this Plant is an underground structure 210m in length,250m wide and 17m in depth.It requires deep island-method excavation within a large area,and construction work is thus very difficult.,The plant uses a double-layer design for both the primary and secondary clarifiers,and is the first to be implemented in Taiwan.It allows a higher treatment capacity in the existing land area.The biological treatment system that uses deep-tank multi-stage aeration is also the first used in Taiwan.In addition to the function of general biological treatment,this system further provides partial denitrification.,24,Engineering Characteristics(2),The preliminary treatment facilities,primary clarifiers,aeration tanks,secondary clarifiers,disinfection chambers and effluent pumping station are all designed as semi-underground enclosed structures,all of which are provided with deodorizing systems and noise control facilities.There will be minimal environmental impact when the plant starts running after the completion of construction work.,The plant has been equipped with tertiary treatment reuse facilities;recirculating back washing filter trough,the effluent can be used as utility water for the treatment plant,water for irrigating the garden and general gardening water for public use.,25,Engineering Characteristics(3),After completion of this work,there will be approximately 4.6 hectares of space above the major treatment units;this space will be designed into a recreation park with a range of facilities,including a childrens playground,roller-skating rink,activity lawns,basketball courts,tennis courts,softball fields and a parking lot.Moreover,heated swimming pool is located in the northeast corner of the plant.The whole leisure area will be open to the
