Unit 8 What Can You Do ? Good morning dear judges, My name is Ou Wenlan, I’m from Huayue Primary School. It’s my great pleasure to stand here to present my teaching ideas. My topic is What can you do Part B read a story taken from unit 8 in Grade 4 (book II) published by Shan Xi Travel Press. I divided my ideas into 4 parts. Part I Something about Ss. Part II My understanding of this lesson Part III Teaching procedure Part IV Writing design First, part one, sth about Ss. The Ss in Grade 4 are curious, they are active. They have learn a little English and thirsty for more knowledge. Pupils at this age likes stories very much. So I choose a story reading. They will be happy to learn this part. They will be better at what they like. Second, part two, my understanding of this lesson This unit continue to learn verb phrases based on the unit 4 What do you do on Saturday? We have learned some vocabularies about daily exercises, such as climb the mountains, play basketball, etc. This unit we learn further about some actions or abilities. This period mainly train Ss’ ablilities of using the language what they learnt. Based on this analysis, I would like to show the aims, importance and methods of teaching in this part. Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: Vocabularies: climb; cross; pick; each other; etc. Sentence structures: Consolidate the usage of there is/ are……. and I can/can’t... Ability aims: After learning the story between the monkey and the tortoise, Ss can make their own stories. Emotional aims: Teach Ss to help each other. Teaching importance: To understand the story between the monkey and the tortoise. Teaching difficulties: 1.Consolidate the usage of “can” and “can’t” according to some phrases with “climb” and “cross”. 2. Ss can make their own stories. Teaching methods: Situational teaching method; Discussion method; task- based method, cooperative learning method.etc. Teaching aids: PPT; dolls; word-cards and the clothes for role play. etc. Part Three Teaching procedures: Step1. Warming-up and lead-in I do a warm up like this. Swim, swim, swim like a fish. Fly fly fly like a bird, jump jump jump like a rabbit, climb climb climb like a monkey, This warm up is a good lead in to the story, climb climb like a monkey. Monkey is the main character of this story what we will learn. Write down the title. Unit 8 What can you do TPR can attract Ss’ attention and make Ss into English class quickly. And what’s more TPR can make the atmosphere of the class active. Step2.Pre-reading I will give them T or F questions before they reading, after they reading they should find the answers.( task based learning method) I will divide the ss into several groups, 4-6 ss in a group they cooperate to study and I will use the competition among groups to pick bananas on the blackboard. 1. ( ) There is a monkey and a tortoise (乌龟) in the story. 2. ( )There are many bananas on the tree. Intention of the design, 1.I don’t present some new phrases before they reading, I want them to form the information gap. The Ss have the information gap they will think by themselves. It is nothing to make mistake, They think by themselves first, then they learn they will keep in mind. 2. The t or f questions are the easiest question, I design this kind of question they can get the answer easily, 3. The t or f question I use the sentence pattern there is/ there are, make the foundation for the further reading. Step 3 .Vocabulary and sentence learning for details reading PPT shows a river ,a monkey, an apple tree, an banana tree, to practice the sentence structure “There is / are …”.Then teach the sentence “There are many bananas on the tree.” to consolidate the patterns. .Point to the river on the Bb , the “monkey” says “But the banana tree is over the river. How can we get it?”(Explain the sentence by body language) (1). The teacher acts a monkey, (TPR) to present the phrases climb the tree and pick the bananas. and practice it with some phrases. Read by groups to consolidate. (3). Show a doll of tortoise with the word card “tortoise” on his body lead to the word “cross”, practice with repeat Then practice “cross” with some phrases. Practice with I say you do. TPR.它不仅可以帮助孩子记忆所学词汇的意思,活跃课堂气氛,还照顾到了一部分后进生,使得全体学生能参与到课堂活动中来。 (4). Do a chant to conclude the three phrases: climb the tree; pick the bananas; cross the river. Step 4 further reading, Listening and answer the other 2 questions 1. What can the monkey do? 2. Who help the monkey cross the river? Ask some ss to answer, who get the right answer the group can get closer to the bananas. 4. Practice the story (1).Four Ss is a group, let Ss have a discussion with their partners: What can we learn from the story( between the monkey and the tortoise)? (Use animation to help Ss understand.) (2).Lead to the theme: We should help each other. 5. 1 (1).Play the flash, let Ss read the text after the flash, trying to imitate the pronunciation and intonation. 2 Try to read the text as roles, tell which group is better,give Ss the corresponding judge. 5.Reading competition (2).Step3.Consolidation 1.Help Ss retell the story with the key words on the Bb. 2. Show Ss four pictures, give them some time, let Ss retell the main idea of the story with their partners. Ask volunteers to retell. Step4.Project Offer some materials (PPT, animation, text, etc.),ask Ss to make their own sentences or stories with their partners, show their performances. Step5. Summary and Homework 1. Praise the group which is the final winner, stress the spirit of this class: Help each other. 2. Try to write down their stories after class. Part 4 Writing design 7- 配套讲稿:
