The lion and the mouse
A small mouse climbed up to a sleeping lion.
The lion awoke and quickly caught the mouse.
"Please," said the mouse, "let me go and I'll come back and help you someday."
The lion laughed, "You are so small! How could you ever help me?"
The lion laughed so hard he had to hold his belly!
The mouse jumped to freedom and ran until she was far, far away.
The next day, two hunters came to the jungle. When the lion came home that night, he stepped into the trap.
The mouse heard the lion's roar and came back to help him.
She began nibbling and nibbling, eating and eating, biting and biting until the rope broke.
The lion turned to the mouse and said, "I am free. Dear friend, I was bad to laugh at you for being small. You helped me by saving my life after all! Thank you. Thank you so much." And the two became the best of best friends forever.
狮子和老鼠

A wolf and his shadow.
When it was getting dark, a wolf was walking along the road. Then he was startled to see his huge shadow under his feet.
“Wow, I didn’t know I was this big!” 
The wolf was happy to know it.
As time went by, the sun was going down and his shadow grew bigger and bigger. 
So it looked like a giant.
“Oh, look at my shadow. I’m this big!!!”  The wolf thought that he was 
as big as his shadow. 
“I’m huge and excellent. I don’t need to be afraid of a lion.” 
 From then the wolf walked with his shoulders open. As he became pompous, he thought of himself as the king of forest.
“Why would I fear the lion?  Lion! Come out here!  Here’s your match!”
This spread to all over the forest and finally to the lion.
It made the lion very angry, so he went to see the wolf. 
“Here I am. I heard you said you can beat me. Now that I’m here, why 
don’t you prove it?”    
The lion’s sharp claw hurt the wolf’s head hard.
“Thump!”  The wolf was knocked out. 
“Ah, help me!” 
It was too late when the wolf got to know that he wasn’t as big or strong 
as the lion. 
狼和影子
天渐渐暗了下来，一只狼在路上走着。
他惊奇地发现了自己脚下巨大的影子。
“哇！我从来不知道自己原来这么大啊！”狼非常开心。
渐渐地，太阳西下，狼的影子变得越来越大。这让他变得像个巨人。
“哦，看我的影子，我这么大啊！！”狼想着，以为自己真有影子那么多。
“我这么大，这么好，再也不用怕狮子了。”
从那以后，狼走路都变得昂首挺胸，他变得自大，觉得自己就是森林之王。
“我为什么要怕狮子？狮子，快出来，我要跟你比试比试。”
这句话在森林里传遍了，最后传到了狮子那里。

The baby elephant
Hello! I am a baby elephant. I am still young, but I started walking when I was only three days old. I like to eat all kinds of plants. I like to eat fruit and branches, too. But I do not eat meat. Do you see how I eat? I use my long trunk to pick up food. I use my trunk to spray water on my body. See how I take a bath using my trunk! “Splash!”
Oh! It is so hot today. I can use my large ears to cool off my body. “Ah!” I can flap my large ears to chase the flies away. “Shoo!” See, I can do many fun things with my ears and my trunk! But, there is one thing I want to do, but I cannot.
Jump! I am the only animal that cannot jump. But that’s OK. I can walk faster than people, anyway! But, there is one more thing I want. Do you see my dad? Look at his tusks!
I wish I could have huge tusks like my dad, right now. He looks wonderful, doesn’t he? But, I have to wait. Dad says that someday, I will have huge tusks, too. Then, I will look just like him!
小象
你好！我是一只小象，我还很小，但在我出生三天的时候我已经开始走路了。我喜欢吃各种植物，我也喜欢吃水果和树枝，但是我不吃肉。看到我怎么吃东西了吗？我用长鼻子撩起食物，用鼻子往身上喷水，看我怎么用鼻子来洗澡。
今天真热啊！我能用我的大耳朵来扇风，用耳朵赶走苍蝇。看，我能用鼻子和耳朵做许多有意思的事情。但是，还有一件事是我想做却做不到的。
那就是跳跃。我是唯一一种不会跳的动物，但是没关系，不管怎样我还能比人类走得快。我还想要一样东西，看到我爸爸了吗？就是像他一样的大獠牙。

The Monkeys justice
One day two cats were walking along the street. On the way, they found a big piece of cake at the same time. One of them jumped at it and picked it up. At once the other tried to take it by force. The first cat said: “Give it up! That’s mine.” “I found it first.” Then the other one said, “No way!” “Don’t make me laugh!” “It’s mine.” “I picked it up first.” “It’s I who picked it up first.” They were fighting and fighting. They couldn’t get the any solution.
At that time, a monkey was passing by. The cats asked him to judge and solve their quarrel. The monkey said, “Ok, I’ll divide the cake into equal two parts.” “And give one part each of you.” The monkey took the cake and spilt it into two parts. Then he shook his head and said, “These aren’t equal.” “One is bigger than the other one.” He ate a bit of the bigger one. “Oh, dear. These aren’t still equal.” Saying that, he ate a bit of the bigger one again. And this way, he went on eating from part to part. Finally, those cakes became very small. Then the monkey said to the cats. “How can I give you these very small pieces?” “I would rather eat them all myself.” After saying that, the monkey ate them all and went way.
“公正”的猴子

The Little Elephant’s Trunk
A little elephant has a long trunk. He is proud of it. He often says to his friends, “Look at my long trunk! It’s great!”
One day, a cow, a horse and the little elephant are playing. The little elephant sprays water at his playmates. They are very angry. They shout, “How annoying! Go away!”
Little elephant wanders in the forest with nothing to do. He swings his long nose to and fro. “Bang!” The trunk wakes up the little tiger and monkey. They are very angry. They all shout at the little elephant, “How disgusting! Go away!”
The little elephant goes home. He feels sad. He asks his Mummy, “Why do they dislike my long trunk?” Mummy says, “I have a long trunk too. But they all love me. The little elephant asks, “Why?” Mummy says, “Because I often help others with my trunk. The little elephant says, “Mummy, I will help others with my trunk too.”
Mummy says, “I believe you can do very well!” So the little elephant begins to help others with his long trunk. He helps the cow water the garden. He helps the horse clean the window. He helps the goat put out a fire. The little elephant helps many animals with his trunk. They look at the little elephant's trunk and say, “Great!” The little elephant smiles. The cow, the horse and the little elephant become good friends. They play together happily.
小象的鼻子
小象有一个长鼻子，它非常自豪。小象经常对朋友们说：“快看我的长鼻子，它真棒！”
一天，小牛、小马和小象在一起玩，小象朝小伙伴们喷水，他们很生气，说：“真讨厌，快走开！”

Alaska
At the very top of North America lies a cold, wild land: Alaska. Alaska is west of Canada. It sits on the Arctic Circle, between the Pacific and the Arctic Oceans. The climate there is stormy, amazing wildlife, and great natural resources. Because it has such huge, empty spaces, some people call Alaska “The Last Frontier.” Alaska has an exciting history and a bright future.
Alaska is enormous, covering over 1.7 million square kilometers. The coastline of Alaska is longer than the coastline of the rest of the United States put together. Alaska is almost as large as the entire country of Mexico!
Because it is so big, Alaska includes many different landscapes. Southeast Alaska lies along the Pacific Ocean next to Canada. It has weather similar to British, Columbia, or Seattle, Washington, with a great deal of rain and relatively warm winters.
Most of the land in Alaska is in what many Alaskans call “the Interior.” The Interior is full of mountains, glaciers, and Arctic tundra. The climate is freezing cold, and it can also be quite dry. Very few people live in this part of the state.
Alaska is famous for its snowy mountains, giant forests, crystal-clear lakes, and beautiful coastline. This wild land is home to grizzly bears, moose, polar bears, wolves, bald eagles, and caribou. Whales, seals, sea lions, sea otters, and fish live in its waters. Many animals in Alaska have thick fur or blubber to keep warm.
阿拉斯加州

All about Chocolate
Ask people about their favorite sweet thing to eat, and they’ll probably say it’s chocolate. People around the world love chocolate. They love it so much that every year they eat more chocolate than any other sweet.
Where does the chocolate come from? It might surprise you learn that chocolate actually grows on trees. That doesn’t mean that you can pick a chunk of chocolate from a tree branch and eat it. In fact, the chocolate growing on trees looks, tastes, and smells nothing like the chocolate you eat.
The tree that gives us chocolate is the cacao tree. Chocolate comes from beans that are found in large pods on the tree. Cacao trees grow near the equator, where it is hot and wet.
Today, most cacao trees are grown on farms called plantations. The trees have lots of small white or yellow flowers that bloom during the year. Some of the flowers change into pods, but most do not. The pods are shaped like little footballs. The pods are green when they first form, but they change to a golden or reddish color as they get ripe. Taking the pods from the cacao trees is just the first step. Making chocolate is a very long and complicated process.
As near as historians can tell, people living in Mexico and Central America were using chocolate almost 2,000 years ago. These people enjoyed a drink made from chocolate. But if you were to try this drink today, you’d find that it tastes much different from the chocolate drinks you enjoy. In fact, it was a very bitter-tasting drink – kind of like coffee.
巧克力
问别人最喜欢的甜食是什么，他们可能会说是巧克力。全世界都喜欢巧克力。人们很喜欢它，每年巧克力的销量要比其他甜食多。

Two friends and a bear
One day two young men are walking in a big forest. One is fat, and the other is thin. "We are good friends. We must help each other. If we meet any beast, I'll help you, "the thin man says. I'll help you, too," the fat one says. They walk on. After a while they hear a great noise. It is a big bear. It is coming this way.
The two young men run away quickly. One of them climbs up a tree, and hides among the leaves. He forgets all about his friend. What about the fat one? He is too fat to climb up a tree. So he throws himself on the ground, closes his eyes, and pretends to be dead. "The bear will think I'm dead," he thinks to himself.
Soon the bear comes up to the fat man, and even puts its nose to his mouth and ears. The fat man holds his breath.
The bear thinks he is dead, so it goes away, because bears never touch the dead. The man in the tree comes down. With a smile he asks his friend, "The bear puts its nose so close to your ears. What does it say to you?"
The friend answers, "The bear says, 'don’t trust your friend. He runs away from you when you need his help most."
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
两个朋友和熊
一天，一胖一瘦两个年轻人走在森林里。瘦的说：“我们是好朋友，必须互相帮助，如果遇到野兽，我会帮你的。”“我也会帮你的”胖的说。他们继续往前走，不一会儿，听到了很大的声音，是一只大熊正朝他们走过来。
两个年轻人很快跑开了。一个爬上了树，躲在树叶中，他把他朋友忘记了。胖的那个该怎么办呢？他太胖了爬不了树，于是他躺在地上，闭上眼睛，假装自己已经死了。他想“熊应该会觉得我已经死了”。

The North Wind and the Sun
The north wind and the sun are good friends. But one day they quarrel about something. "I am stronger than you," the cold north wind says. "No, I am stronger than you," answers the soft warm sun. Just then they see a man walking along the road. "I can get that man's hat off his head," says the wind. "I can get that man's hat off his head, too," say the sun. "Then let's see who can get the man's hat off his head first," says the wind. "The one who can do that first is stronger." "Ok"! You try it first," says the soft warm sun. "All right!" So the north wind begins to blow. But the harder the wind blows, the tighter the man holds his hat and coat. The wind can't make him take them off. "It is my turn now," the sun says. So the sun comes out and shines down warmly upon the man. The man feels hot. He takes off his hat, and then even his coat. "That's enough! You are stronger than me, "says the wind.
北风和太阳
