We have been meaning to go volunteer at the shelter ever since. I was recently feeling the push to serve more, so I scheduled a Saturday visit. My daughter had social invites and was torn, but she also felt the push to visit the shelter so planned to go join her friends later in the day. We piled up old blankets, sheets and pillows to take along and donate. On arriving and touring we met 500 dogs and 200 cats being cared for at this shelter. After the tour we served meals to the puppies in the sick/injured puppy ward. We held and comforted those who would clearly survive their injuries and several who were so sick that the volunteer vet on hand said they had a 50/50 chance of being alive next week. Then we led two sick, abandoned young kittens with an eyedropper. While feeding the animals I watched the workers who were cleaning out some of the dog houses with healthy dogs who would be returned to the streets. I was so touched by how often they stopped in their duty to pet and play with these dogs. The many workers and volunteers are paid nothing to support these animals and they do it with such love. My daughter and I stayed for 4-5 hours, beyond the time she had scheduled to meet friends for lunch. She chose to skip her social date and spend more time with these animals despite the tough conditions. Tired and dirty, we felt blessed to share some time with people who care deeply for relieving the suffering of so many vulnerable beings. 24. Why did the author plan to pay a visit to the shelter? A. To apply to be a volunteer. B. To rescue hurt street baby dogs. C. To treat homeless momma dogs. D. To do more work for homeless animals. 25. How would the hurt animals in the shelter end? A. Not all of them could keep alive. B. Their life would come to normal. C. They would live there all their life. D. They would be adopted by people. 26. Why was the author deeply moved while volunteering? A. The animals led a happy life in the shelter. B. So many healthy animals would go to streets. C. The workers showed deep love to the animals. D. The workers are paid little to do their work. 27. What do you know about the author’s daughter? A. She forgot her appointment. B. She missed her appointment. C. She tried to avoid her appointment. D. She was eager to return to care for animals. D 25. A 26. C 27. 根据最后一段中第一句“My daughter and I stayed for 4-5 hours, beyond the time she had scheduled to meet friends for lunch.〔女儿和我呆了4到5个小时,错过了她预定和朋友们共进午餐的时间。〕,B项正确,应选B项。 C 【黑龙江省大庆实验中学2022-2022学年高一下学期期中】 Why should mankind explore space? Why should money, time and effort be spent exploring and researching something with so few apparent benefits? Why should resources be spent on space rather than on conditions and people on Earth? These are questions that, understandably, are very often asked. Perhaps the best answer lies in our genetic makeup (基因构成) as human beings. What drove our ancestors to move from the trees into the plains, and on into all possible areas and environments? The wider the spread of a species, the better its chance of survival. Perhaps the best reason for exploring space is this genetic tendency to expand wherever possible. Nearly every successful civilization has explored, because by doing so, any dangers in surrounding areas can be identified and prepared for. Without knowledge, we may be completely destroyed by the danger. With knowledge, we can lessen its effects. Exploration also allows minerals and other potential (潜在的) resources to be found. Even if we have no immediate need of them, they will perhaps be useful later. Resources may be more than physical possessions. Knowledge or techniques have been acquired through exploration. The techniques may have medical applications which can improve the length or quality of our lives. We have already benefited from other spin-offs including improvements in earthquake prediction, in satellites for weather forecasting and in communications systems. Even non-stick pans and mirrored sunglasses are by-products (副产品) of technological developments in space. While many resources are spent on what seems a small return, the exploration of space allows creative, brave and intelligent members of our species to focus on what may serve to save us. While space may hold many wonders and explanations of how the universe was formed or how it works, it also holds dangers. The danger exists, but knowledge can help human beings to survive. Without the ability to reach out across space, the chance to save ourselves might not exist. While Earth is the only planet known to support life, surely the adaptive ability of humans would allow us to live on other planets. It is true that the lifestyle would be different, but human life and cultures have adapted in the past and surely could in the future. 28. Why does the author mention the questions in Paragraph1? A. To express his doubts. B. To compare different ideas. C. To describe the conditions on Earth. D. To introduce points for discussion. 29. The underlined word “spin-offs〞 in Paragraph 4 probably refers to______. A. survival chances B. potential resources C. unexpected benefits D. physical possessions 30. What makes it possible for humans to live on other planets? A. Our genetic makeup. B. Resources on the earth. C. The adaptive ability of humans. D. By-products in space exploration. 31. Which of the statements can best sum up the passage? A. Space exploration has created many wonders. B. Space exploration provided the best value for money. C. Space exploration may help us avoid potential problems on Earth. D. Space exploration can benefit science and technology. 【答案】28. D 29. C 30. C 31. C 30. 细节理解题。根据最后一段While Earth is the only planet known to support life, surely the adaptive ability of humans would allow us to live on other planets.说明人的适应能力是人能否在其它星球上生存的关键,故C正确。 31. 主旨大意题。文章主要讲了太空探索有很多的好处,也许可能帮助我们防止未来可能的灾难,故C正确。 D 【四川省南充高级中学2022-2022学年高一下学期期中】 Do you often dream at night? How do you feel when you dream? Is it useful to our health? “Dreams may be more important than sleep, and we all need to dream,〞 some scientists say. Dreams take up about one quarter of our sleeping time. People have several dreams each night. Dreams are like short films. They are usually in colour. Some dreams are like old films. They come to us over and over again. That may be because the dreamer is worrying about something. Dreaming may be a way of trying to find an answer. Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams. They may have been thinking about their work all day. These thoughts can carry over into dreams. Sometimes we wake up with a good feeling from a dream. But often we can’t remember the dream. Dreams can disappear quickly from memory. Too much dreaming can be harmful. The more we sleep, the longer we dream. The mind is at work when we dream. That is why we may have a long sleep and still wake up tired. 32. The first paragraph tells us that dream is very ______. A. interesting B. important C. useful D. harmful 33. When a dream comes to somebody again and again, it shows ______. A. he often does the work about the dream B. somebody misses him very much C. the dream is very important to him D. he is worrying about something 34. According to the passage, we know dreaming can ______ sometimes. A. hurt us badly B. let us think over and over C. help us find new ideas D. wake us up early 35. The passage mainly tells us ______. A. what a dream is B. dreams are like films C. too much dreaming is harmful D. we can remember our dreams 【答案】32. B 33. D 34. C 35. A 33. 细节理解题。根据第二段中They come to us over and over again. That may be because the dreamer is worrying about something.句意:我们一遍又一遍地做梦。这可能是因为梦者有担忧的事物。应选D 34. 细节理解题。根据第二段中Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams.句意:有些人从做梦中获得对他们的工作的新思想。应选C 35. 主旨大意题。根据第一段Do you often dream at night? How do you feel when you dream? Is it useful to our health? “Dreams may be more important than sleep, and we all need to dream,〞 some scientists say.可知,本文讲述的是“梦是什么?〞应选A。 第二节〔共5小题;每题2分,总分值10分〕 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最正确选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 【黑龙江省大庆实验中学2022-2022学年高一下学期期中】 Rather Public speaking and critical thinking What is critical thinking? To a certain degree, it’s a matter of logic (逻辑) — of being able to spot weaknesses in other people’s arguments and to avoid them in your own, it also includes related skills such as distinguishing fact from opinion and assessing the soundness of evidence . In the broad sense, critical thinking is focused, organized thinking – the ability to see clearly the relationships among ideas. ___36___ The greatest thinkers, scientists, and inventors have often taken information that was really available and put it together differently to produce new ideas. That, too, is critical thinking. ___37___ As the class goes on, for example, you will probably spend a good deal of time organizing your speeches. While this may seem like a purely mechanical (机械的) exercise, it is closely connected with critical thinking. If the structure of your speech is loose and confused, chances are that your thinking is also disordered and confused. If, on the other hand, the structure is clear, there is a good chance your thinking is too. Organizing a speech is not a matter of arranging the ideas your already have. ___38___ What is true of organization is true of many aspects of public speaking. ___39___ As you work on expressing you- 配套讲稿:
