They went in a spaceship called Apollo 11, which left Cape Kennedy on July 16 and went 385,000 kilometres. The journey took three days. On July 20th the spaceship landed in the Sea of Tranquility. Armstrong first stepped onto the moon, and then Aldrin. They walked on the surface of the moon, picked up some rocks and put them in the spaceship. They jumped up and down, then put a flag in the ground. On July 21, Apollo 11 left the moon and returned to the earth. Three days later it came back down in the Pacific Ocean, and a ship took them to America and to their families. A Members of a high school class of 1943 finally got the party they should have had 70 years ago. Their senior celebration was stopped by World War Ⅱ. Anthony Pegnataro, the 1943 class monitor of James Hillhouse High School, remembers the attack on Pearl Harbor (珍宝港) like it was yesterday. On December 7, 1941, Pegnataro said, he and his friends were skating when they heard over the radio that America had entered a state of war. Going to war meant no party any more. Pegnataro's carefree (无忧无虑的) high school life suddenly came to an end. “Most of us went right into the service after graduation,” Pegnataro said. “We graduated in June and were in the army in July.” Of the 1,585 students at James Hillhouse High School, less than 300 are still alive today and many of them never made it back from war. Pegnataro, who is now 87, decided that along with their 70year class reunion, they would also hold the party they never got to have. About 70 people from around the country came to dance on Sunday. “It was excellent. Everyone there just had great time,” Pegnataro said. “Those who came guessed it might be their last one.” Pegnataro said he_was_on_cloud_nine to bring his wife of 83 years back to the party, and he introduced her to each of his classmates. “Everyone was very excited at the party. Though we had been separated for so many years, the war brought my class closer together,” he said. “We missed out on the party that we should have had. And the 70th reunion was a very important event in our lives,” Pegnataro said. “We all made it”. 21.When Pearl Harbor was attacked, Pegnataro ________. A. went into the army at once B. was skating with his parents C. was having a Christmas party D. was still a high school student 22.The underlined part “he was on cloud nine” meant Pegnataro ________. A. was on a plane B. felt very happy C. was not comfortable D. came at nine o'clock 我们从后边他说的话“Everyone was very excited at the party.” 23.In Pegnataro's opinion, the war ________. A. had its own two sides B. made him lose everything C. had little influence on his school D. lasted longer than he had expected 答案与解析 A 依据倒数其次段Pegnataro说的话“the war brought my class closer together”可知,他认为战斗具有双面性。A项正确。 24.What would be the best title for the passage? A. Pegnataro — a Man of Knowledge B. James Hillhouse High School C. An Unusual Party D. War and Peace B An upper class British lady once declared: “Anyone_seen_on_a_bus_after_the_age_of_30_has_been_a_failure_in_life.” This may sound arrogant (傲慢) and ignorant. Unfortunately, there are still people thinking that way. Some wealthy folk in the West look down on buses and boast about how many years it has been since they last travelled by one. How sad is that? Our roads are packed with cars and the air is full of the pollution they emit. But still, many car users are unwillingly to get on a bus or a bike or a train to take themselves to work. It's convenient to drive, they'll say. Buses are so unreliable, they'll claim. And trains are expensive — at least in the UK. It's an attitude which may have to change. It doesn't make sense to drive a car in a city where there's a public transport system. Also, these rush hour commuters (来回上班者) usually travel alone. As a result, transport authorities in the UK are looking at solutions to city centre congestion(拥堵). One is to increase the number of parking spaces at outoftown railway stations. More motorists can then leave their cars and travel into the city by train. Light rail or tramways are another environmentally friendly solution. Many cities across Europe have had light rail or tramway systems. The subway in London is used by everyone, rich and poor. It's the quickest way of getting around the city, whatever your bank balance. And then there are the cycle hire plans you find in many modern cities. In London and Paris, you can hire a bike by the hour to get you where you need to go. Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is often pictured cycling to work. David Cameron, the British prime minister, cycled to the House of Commons before he became leader. 25.What's the implied meaning of the underlined sentence in the first paragraph? A. If a person above 30 can travel on a bus, he was successful. B. If a person above 30 cannot travel on a bus, he has failed in his life. C. If you are middleaged and don't have a car, then you are a loser. D. If the middleaged often travel by bus, they will be losers. 26.Which of the following is NOT the reason why some car users are unwilling to change their way of transport? A. It's convenient to drive around the city. B. They cannot count on buses. C. It costs them much money to take trains. D. Driving cars has little effect on environment. 27.How many solutions to congestion have been mentioned in the article? A. 3. B. 4. C. 5. D. 6. 28.What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Cycling to work grows in popularity in the UK. B. David Cameron keeps driving to work all the time. C. Prime Minister is a good example in the campaign. D. More people are taking different methods to better the environment. C Can dogs and cats live in peace in the same home? People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cat are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new way for success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. Twothirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog. However, it wasn't all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while attacking and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals are just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals attack, while a dog doing the same signals admitting defeat. In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behaviour. They are learning how to talk each other's language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “dog”, and dogs can learn how to talk “cat”. What's interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn to read each other's body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than was previously thought. Once familiar with each other's presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other. The advantage of this research on cats and dogs may not only about pets — to people who don't get along, including neighbours, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance. 29.The underlined word “swimmingly” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to ________. A. early B. sweetly C. quickly D. surprisingly 30.Some cats and dogs may fight when ________. A. they are cold to each other B. they look away from each other C. they understand each other's signals in a wrong way D. they are introduced at an early age 答案与解析 C 依据其次自然段中的“One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals are just opposite.” 31.What is found surprising about cats and dogs? A. They eat and sleep together. B. They observe each other's behaviors. C. They learn to speak each other's language. D. They know something from each other's voices. 32.What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs? A. We should learn to live in peace. B. We should know more about animals. C. We should live in peace with animals. D. We should learn more body languages. D ★ Help Wanted
