Text 2 M:Mr. Baker is in hospital again. W: I'm sorry to hear that. He should stop smoking right now. Text 3 M:Is it necessary for us to finish the physics exercises at school? W: I don't think so. We can do them at home tonight. Text 4 M:Here is 200 hundred yuan, please give it to the poor children in Yushu County. W: Thanks for your help. They've returned to their school again. Text 5 M:Steve won the medal in the high jump last year. Why didn't he join the game this time? W: Don't you know he hurt his foot when he was getting ready for the sports meeting? Text 6 W:So how long have you been living in London? M: Umm ... a couple of years. How long have you been working here? W: Only a few months. I moved down here for the job. There was no work for me where I came from. M: Where did you come from then? W: I came from a small village called Arnside, near Lancaster a year ago. Umm ... there was nothing to do there, so I moved to London. M: Do you enjoy working here in this restaurant? W: Very much so. Text 7 M:How about going to Dalian by train, darling? W:Why not take a plane? That will be much faster. M:Yeah, of course. But I can't say it's a very good idea. Maybe it's not safe. W:You seem to be over anxious. More and more people are traveling by air now. M:I know, but anyhow I don't want to travel high above the ground. In my view, the nearer to the earth, the safer it will be. W:Well, let's go by ship, OK? The train is always crowded with passengers. M:I can't agree more. We must feel quite comfortable to have a sea journey. Besides, it will be less expensive. See you later. Text 9 M:You have been to Kuala Lumpur, Mary? Tell me what's the best way to travel around? W: I always take a taxi, it's really cheap, although you may have to pay an additional 50% between midnight and 6 a.m.. M: Could you tell me more? W: Taxi is metered, just make sure the meter is turned on, and sometimes it may be hard to get a taxi during the rush hour or when it rains. M: Will the taxi driver give you a discount if you hire the taxi for a whole day? W: Yeah, he will. M: Can the taxi driver speak English well? W: No, they can't. This is a problem. M: What's the public transport like? W: Not bad, the city buses and many buses are air conditioned and quite cheap, but they are a little slow. M: And car hire? W: That doesn't cost much, and petrol is cheap. However, I personally don't think it's worth driving yourself, because parking is often difficult. Text 10 Eric Clapton is one of the most successful rock stars of all time. He has sold millions of copies of his records and has appeared in concerts all over the world. Clapton was born in 1950 in a small town near London. When he was only two years old, his mother left him. Eric was brought up by his grandparents. Until he was nine he believed that they were his parents and it was a terrible shock when he found out that they weren't. But his grandparents treated him well. They paid for him to go to art college. But Eric had already become interested in music and he started playing the guitar in bars and clubs. Clapton first became famous when he started a group called Cream. He could not only play the guitar and sing but could also write excellent songs. But while on stage he was the brilliant guitarplaying superstar, his private life was falling apart. After his marriage broke down, he started taking drugs. 其次部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 A When you leave school, you_can_breathe_a_sigh_of_relief_and _leave_learning_behind,_right? Wrong! Learning should last a lifetime. You exercise your body to stay strong, and you should exercise your mind to stay sharp. An English idiom says, “You can't teach an old dog new tricks.” But scientists have discovered that isn't true. Older people can learn, and they should keep their brain active. Now a new trend has begun in several states in the US that encourages learning. Adults can attend One Day University. They can spend a Saturday or Sunday hearing four 70minute lectures. Each one is given by a top university professor. One of the original participants said, “It's like a health club for the brain.” Also, universities like MIT have made all of the courses and lectures available online for free! Libraries offer learning programs too. With so much available, there is no excuse not to learn! Learning is a habit. Don't leave it behind after you leave school. On the website lifehack. org, author Scott Young mentions several things to help you. Always have a book. It doesn't matter whether you read fast or slow. Just read. If you read just one book a week, you'll read 52 over the course of a year. Think of the knowledge you'll gain! Practice it. As you read,do something with what you've learned. Don't just enjoy the mental exercise. Use the knowledge. If you read about painting, try it. Make a “to learn” list. Compose a “to learn” list for yourself. Maybe you want to speak better English, play the piano, or cook French food. Whatever interests you, put it on your list and then make the time to do it. Teach others. Whatever you learn, teach someone else. You'll not only help others but also understand what you've learned. 21.What's the best title for this passage? A. Make learning last a lifetime. B. What you should do after leaving school? C. Several tips on learning. D. New trend in learning. 答案与解析 A 本文第一段提出论点Learning should last a lifetime,其次段分析这个论点,第三段和后文提出了几个学习的方法,故答案为A。 22.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 1 mean? A. You don't need to consider what you have learnt after graduation. B. Leaving learning behind is what you should do after a break. C. You can relax as you have escaped from the hard life of studying. D. You should have a good rest and then go on learning. 答案与解析 C 依据后句Wrong! Learning should last a lifetime可知,答案为C。 23.How many ways of learning for adults in the US are mentioned in Paragraph 2? A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four. 答案与解析 C 其次段提到了One Day University, courses and lectures available online和programs in libraries三种方式,故答案为C。 24.Which of the following is NOT a suggestion made by Scott Young in the passage? A. Keep learning as a habit. B. Always have a book. C. List what you want to learn. D. Teach others what you learn. 答案与解析 A 依据第三段内容可知,Keep learning as a habit不是Scott Young的建议;依据后面几段的内容可知,B、C和D三项都是他的建议。故答案为A。 B Main Holiday Islands Channel Islands The two main islands, Jersey and Guernsey, are remarkable in that they present a combination of enjoyment peace and quiet.
