How is everybody doing today? (Applause.) How about Tim Spicer? (Applause.) I am here with students at Wakefield
2、 High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we've got students tuning in from all across America, from kindergarten through 12th grade. And I am just so glad that all could join us today. And I want to thank Wakefield for being such an outstanding host. Give yourselves a big round of applause. (App
3、lause.)I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it's your first day in a new school, so it's understandable if you're a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feelin
4、g pretty good right now - (applause) - with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer and you could've stayed in bed just a little bit longer this morning.I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived overseas
5、. I lived in Indonesia for a few years. And my mother, she didn't have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school, but she thought it was important for me to keep up with an American education. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday. But beca
6、use she had to go to work, the only time she could do it was at 4:30 in the morning.Now, as you might imagine, I wasn't too happy about getting up that early. And a lot of times, I'd fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I'd complain, my mother would just give me one
7、 of those looks and she'd say, This is no picnic for me either, buster. (Laughter.)So I know that some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I'm here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I'm here because I want to talk with you about your educat
8、ion and what's expected of all of you in this new school year.Now, I've given a lot of speeches about education. And I've talked about responsibility a lot.I've talked about teachers' responsibility for inspiring students and pushing you to learn.I've talked about your parent
9、s' responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and you get your homework done, and don't spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with the Xbox.I've talked a lot about your government's responsibility for setting high standards, and supporting teachers and principals, and
10、turning around schools that aren't working, where students aren't getting the opportunities that they deserve.But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, the best schools in the world - and none of it will make a difference, none of it wil
11、l matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities, unless you show up to those schools, unless you pay attention to those teachers, unless you listen to your parents and grandparents and other adults and put in the hard work it takes to succeed. That's what I want to focus on today: the r
12、esponsibility each of you has for your education.I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself. Every single one of you has something that you're good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That's
13、 the opportunity an education can provide.Maybe you could be a great writer - maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper - but you might not know it until you write that English paper - that English class paper that's assigned to you. Maybe you could be an innovator or an
14、inventor - maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or the new medicine or vaccine - but you might not know it until you do your project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a senator or a Supreme Court justice - but you might not know that until you join student gover
15、nment or the debate team.And no matter what you want to do with your life, I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You're going to need a good
16、 education for every single one of those careers. You cannot drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You've got to train for it and work for it and learn for it.And this isn't just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing
17、less than the future of this country. The future of America depends on you. What you're learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future. 批评与自我批评是我们党的优良传统,是达到党内和革命团体内的团结使之利于战斗的武器。但目前批评与自我批评的武器也已经不同程度在党内悄悄地丢失了。比如党内存在的腐败问题,就是批评与自我批评淡化的严重
18、恶果。俗话说:金无足赤,人无完人,世界上没有不犯错误的人,谁都不是十全十美。共产党员也是人,不可避免也会犯错误。犯错误不可怕,可怕的是犯了错误后我们不能及时地发现和纠正。当履禁不止的腐败现象一个个见于报纸、电视时,每一个有责任感的共产党员无不痛心疾首,我们不禁要问,倒底出了什么问题?胡长青、王怀忠、戚火贵、李真、安惠君等腐败分子一个接一个纷纷落马,赵林四层别墅的墙上将来还有地方挂吗?这些人都有过一段辉煌的过去,都曾怀着崇高的共产主义理想为党和人民的事业做出过贡献,从他们放弃世界观的改造到走上犯罪道路并不是一朝一夕,为什么在这个过程中没有及时地发现?答案是我们没有充分地利用好保持共产党员先进性的
19、法宝批评与自我批评。当他们放弃了共产主义的理想和信念时,他们实际上从思想上已脱离了共产党,思想上的改变必然会导致行为上的改变,如果我们能及时通过开展批评与自我批评来给予纠正和挽救,他们还会落到这个下场吗!党的先进性是党的生命线。党的先进性不是空中楼阁,而是通过每个党员的先进性体现出来的。马克思、恩格斯在共产党宣言中把共产党员的先进性称之为胜过其余无产阶级群众的地方,列宁、毛泽东等也常常称共产党员为特殊材料制成的人、是工人阶级的先进分子。这说明了共产党员既要和人民群众血肉相联,又不能将自己混同于一般群众,必须时常用先进性这把尺子量一量自己,而度量的最好手段就是通过开展批评与自我批评。遵义会议、延
20、安整风运动和党的十一届三中全会后的拨乱反正都是我们党的历史上开展批评与自我批评的成功范例。可以说,党是在批评与自我批评中得到发展、巩固,并不断前进的。从微观上看,每一个党员都来自社会的特定阶层,不可避免地带有各种非无产阶级的思想,只有通过批评与自我批评,才能不断提高党员的觉悟和思想境界,自觉抵制资产阶级及各种腐朽没落思想的侵蚀,真正地解决思想入党的问题。批评与自我批评使我们党从上到下保持了纯洁性和不断向前发展的蓬勃生命力。批评与自我批评有助于提高党员素质。开展批评与自我批评首先要有衡量我们言行正确与否的标准。标准是什么?标准就是中国共产党章程规定的共产党员必须履行的义务。批评与自我批评可以使我
21、们牢记党的宗旨,把全心全意为人民服务作为自己的终生追求和义不容辞的责任,实实在在地为群众办实事、办好事,诚心诚意为人民服务,吃苦在前、享受在后;批评与自我批评可以加强我们的组织纪律性,使每一位共产党员都应该明白,组织上入党只是一生一次,但思想上入党是一生一世的,必须活到老、学到老、改造到老,只有思想上保持了先进性,才能在行动上体现先进性。批评与自我批评有助于加强基层党组织建设。过去基层党组织的作用发挥得不明显,尤其是对党员进行教育、管理和监督上,在密切联系群众,维护群众的正当权利和利益上做得不够,经过这段时间的考试中心党支部组织学习和召开的民主生活会,我感到基层党组织的战斗保垒作用进一步发挥出
22、来了。而这些变化是和我们支部发扬党的三大作风之一的批评与自我批评分不开的。在民主生活会上,大家都是同志,不分职务,畅所欲言,谁有错误都敢指出,谁有缺点都敢暴露,不是为了相互揭短,打击报复,而是为了集体的利益,是建设性的,气氛融洽,凝聚力增强了。批评与自我批评是解决当前党内存在的腐败问题的利剑。随着改革开放的不断深入,我国已进入了快速发展的机遇期,转型中的社会由于管理制度和法律的不健全从而出现的腐败现象不可避免,这是对我们共产党员的考验。自觉开展批评和自我批评是防止腐败现象发生的有效手段。孔子日:吾日三省吾身,古代大儒家为了保持自已的名节都知道每天反思自已,做为共产党员,尤其是党的领导干部更应如
