Twelve years ago, when I was 50,I wondered what 60 or 70 would be like. I looked around and saw only one style of living. It’s not fair, I thought. Young people have so many styles to choose from, but older people have just one choice. So I decide to do something about it , something practical.
I worked on my fitness by joining exercise classes in town. A few years later, my husband and I moved to a retirement community, and I wanted to teach aerobic classes. The community center wouldn’t give me a room to teach in, so I had to walk around and find any available empty room.

I think the real secret of the Dancing Grannies is out attitude. I was raised extremely poor ---no-food poor. If we wanted toys we had to make things up to play with ,so I learned early to be very creative. And you know, I think being poor was one of the best things that ever happened to me because I learned to look for treasures.
That’s what I’m still doing today—looking for the treasure in growing old. I’m getting better and better. It’s true that antiques have to be treated a bit differently, with a little care, but they still have a beauty of their own.

Think necessity is the mother of invention? Not always. There is a very thin line between brilliant innovation and absolute failure, as some of the inventors famously found out.
Some of the most popular products we use today were accidents by scientists--cooks who spilled things, and misguided inventors who--in the case of the glue used on Post-it notes--were trying to create the opposite of what they ended up with. But we can all take comfort in knowing even some huge mistakes can come with great ideas. And sometimes, even forgetting to wash your hands has its advantages.
You know how when you're done with a Post-it note, you throw it in the wastebasket? Yeah, that was pretty much what Spencer Silver almost did when he was trying to develop a super strong adhesive(胶黏剂) for 3M labs in 1968 and failed to find any wise way. Instead, he had invented the opposite: an adhesive that stuck to objects but could be easily lifted off.
Silver marketed the possible uses of his new, sort-of-weak glue around 3M for years, all to deaf ears. Finally, a colleague named Art Fry attended one of Silver's seminars(研讨会) in 1974 (3M has long been known for encouraging employees to step outside of their own departments to see what people in other areas of the company are doing). Fry saw a use where no one else did: holding his page in his book, which his bookmarks kept falling out of. And when he added Silver's mild adhesive to paper bookmarks, a first Post-it note was born. Not to let you think this is just silly company legend, even the Web fact-checker S gave this a "True" rating.
3M finally agreed to distribute the Post-it Notes nationwide in 1980, a decade after Silver had first happened to find the use. Thirty years later, they'd be as important to the American office as the stapler(订书机) and the fax machine.

Beliefs also come from past experiences. That is why it is so important to experience success on a regular basis. Set small, achievable goals, and then try your best to reach them. “I will finish this project by early afternoon.” “I’ll make six calls on the phone in the next hour.” “I will exercise for 20 minutes tonight.” When you start to experience success, then you start to believe in success, and that leads to more and bigger successes.
Beliefs come from knowledge. The more you learn, the more things you will know to be possible. Always take advantage of opportunities to learn something new. It will bring new possibilities into your beliefs and your life. Most importantly, you can develop new beliefs by setting and imagining goals for your life. Define your goals clearly and accurately.
