She was eighty-four and so was my uncle. When she passed he felt miserable. They had been married for over 60 years. After my aunt’s death, he attended his church more frequently and his mourning was nearly unbearable to witness. His only daughter lived clear across the country in the south so he had only himself to make a comfort. My cousin talked him into selling the house that he and my aunt had built together about twenty-five years before. It was very hard to part with the home they built together. One day he called my cousin who was living in Texas and told her that he reconnected with a lady from a church that he and my aunt went to forty years previously. She played the piano and his church was looking for new music. Her husband had died about seven years previously. He said he just wanted someone to go out to dinner with and spend time with. We were happy for them but had no idea how it would turn out. They were both almost eighty-seven years old. They were like lovebirds and spent as much time together as they could. They both had one child each, she a son, he a daughter. The conflict in their relationship came one day when they neither wanted to leave their respective churches. Before too long they realized that they did not want to be apart. They would find a new church together. They planned to marry. When he took her to a jewelry store and bought her a diamond, the employees were so impressed that they had a big write up in our own local paper, “The ‘Truth for Valentines’ Day. ” They prepared for their wedding. They moved the wedding date up because neither wanted to wait any longer to “be together”. They got married in her house, where her first marriage took place. It was such a beautiful refreshing thing to see, two people who you would have thought had pretty much lived their lives, were beginning a new one together. 第二十四节 Which of the following may serve as the best title of the passage above? C After serving as a ski guide in Utah’s back country for more than two decades, a Park City woman is being recognized by Outside Magazine as 2015’s Best Ski Guide. Deb Lovci grew up in Colorado and began skiing when she was five years old. Later she moved to Utah and fell in love with the back country of Wasatch Mountains. Lovci has now served as a Ski Utah Interconnect guide for 27 years. “Anything that you slide on snow, I’m in love with, ” she said. Lovci leads ski tours through the back country of six different resorts located in the Wasatch Mountains. Lovci typically takes a group of eight to ten people on a ski tour each day, and on average, she takes 300 customers on tours through the back country each season. She loves showing off Utah’s wilderness. “I love the back country,” she said. “I love the snow science behind it. I love the safety … I just love it.” Along with leading ski tours, Lovci is passionate about anything related to activities. She also runs a bed-and-breakfast in Park City, the Old Town Guest House. As “a jack-of- all-trades”, she also runs Alpine skis, Nordic skis competitively, and snowboards, and leads mountain bike tours during the summer. Outside Magazine selected five travel guides in various outdoor fields to name as the best in their Best of Travel April issue. Lovci said she was unexpectedly cheerful when she was selected as 2015’s Best Ski Guide by Outside Magazine. “We all work really hard in what we do and we love it and it’s really nice to get acknowledged,” she said. “I work with a lot of excellent guides and the award could have gone to anybody — any one of us. I often recall my ski experiences which were fearful at the beginning, but they helped me achieve a success.” In a news release, Ski Utah director of communications, Paul Marshall said, “Deb Lovci is one of the most enthusiastic, focused, knowledgeable guides in the industry. Without her as the forefront of our Interconnect Tour, we would not have the success we have. She has been an enthusiastic part of the Interconnect Tour for 27 years and is thought highly of by our customers.” 28. What helped Deb Lovci to be selected as 2015’s Best Ski Guide? A. Her being ready for any ski risks. B. Her love for Utah’s wilderness and her ski experiences. C. Her dreaming of the best ski job on the planet. D. Her gender and age. 29. The underlined words “a jack-of- all-trades” in Para. 4 probably mean “someone ______”. A. who is very skilled at communicating B. who can be recognized as a workaholic C. who is enthusiastic about doing business D. who can do many different types of work 30. From Paul Marshall’s words, we can infer that _______. A. Lovci should have helped them in the tour B. everyone should think highly of Lovci C. Lovci deserved the award. D. Lovci achieved her success with Interconnect Tour’s help. 31. What would be the best title for the passage? A. Deb Lovci —2015’s Best Ski Guide B. Deb Lovci and Outside Magazine C. The Ski Utah Interconnect Tour D. Deb Lovci — a ski guide for 27 years D This year, Face book, the social media website announced that it would cooperate with several news organizations — including The New York Times, The Guardian, and the BBC — to place news stories directly into users’ personal Face book webpage. Stories published using Face book Instant will load more quickly and keep the style of the original publisher, who will keep all the advertising income the stories earn — at least for now. The deal shows how important social media has become to news organizations, and is a clear sign of how the world of news is changing — and has been for a while. Many thought of it as the death of the newspaper, when Google News began in 2002. It had no human editor. Instead Google used, and still uses, a secret computer program that selects and displays news stories according to the reader’s personal interests, More recently, Associated Press and Yahoo have been publishing computer-written articles. Both use special software to automatically produce stories about company financial results and sports reports — areas where the quality of writing is felt to be of secondary importance to the accuracy of the data. I think we should be concerned about such developments. One concern is that Facebook, Google and other social media websites see journalism as a sideline (副业), a way of putting people in front of advertisements. It isn’t their primary function — so if it stops making them lots of money, they’re likely to stop doing it. There’s another concern that computer-written articles are not actually journalism at all, because what a human news team produces is actually quite complex. A well-written news story puts information in context, offers a voice to each side of an argument and brings the public new knowledge. Although economics and speed of delivery mean readers will probably choose a computer-written story over a carefully shaped article — at least for daily news — I don’t think the computers will be writing any in-depth articles for a while yet. 32. What is the main purpose of the article? A. To report on a new computer service offered by Facebook. B. To advise readers against reading computer-written news. C. To express concern about recent trends in online news. D. To describe the process of online news reporting. 33. Computer-written news reports have so far focused on spo- 配套讲稿:
