My husband had insisted on watering the flowers in the garden by himself, and when he discovered that he couldn't manage he asked me for help at the last moment. So now we had an hour to get to the airport. Luckily, there were not many cars or buses on the road and we were able to get there just in time. We checked in and went direct to a big hall to wait for our flight (航班) to be called. We waited and waited but no announcement (通知) was made. We asked for information and the girl there told us that the plane hadn't even arrived yet. In the end there was another announcement telling us that passengers waiting for Flight LJ108 could get a free meal voucher (餐券) and that the plane hadn't left Spain for technical reasons. We thought that meant that it wasn't safe for the plane to fly. We waited again for a long time until late in the evening when we were asked to report again. This time we were given free vouchers to spend the night in a nearby hotel. The next morning after a bad night because of all the planes taking off and landing, we reported back to the airport. Guess what had happened while we were asleep! Our plane had arrived and taken off again. All the other passengers had been woken up in the night to catch the plane, but for some reason or other we had been forgotten. You can imagine how we felt! 21. Before leaving for the airport, the author _____. A. helped water the flowers B. found it hard to start her car C. cleaned the garden by herself D. made a phone call to her husband 22. Why didn't the author's plane take off on time? A. The airport was too busy. B. The weather was terrible. C. Some passengers were late. D. Something was wrong with it. 23. How did the author probably feel the next morning? A. Lucky. B. Excited. C. Angry. D. Nervous. 24. What's the main idea of the text? A. It is important to be a polite passenger. B. A couple were left behind at an airport. C. It is dangerous to travel around in a plane. D. More and more airports provide a bad service. B The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park The Hawaii Volcanoes (火山) National Park, on the island of Hawaii, has two active volcanoes: Mauna Loa, which last erupted (喷发) in 1984, is 13,677 feet (4.17 km) above sea level; Kilauea is next to Mauna Loa and it has been erupting since January 3rd, 1983. It is 4,190 feet (1.23 km) above sea level. When to visit The park is open 24 hours a day all year round. There are no plants or trees on the lava (火山岩) fields and no protection from the sun, so you must bring sunscreen (防晒霜). How to get there The best way to get to the park is to take Highway 11. From the airport at Hilo, Highway 11 will take you southward across the eastern part of the island. Things to see If you want to know more about the park, the Kilauea Visitor Center is surely a stop to make. It is a quarter of a mile (402 m) from the park entrance. There, you can see a great movie about real lava and learn about the island's natural and cultural history. The center is open from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are also many guided walks and hikes (徒步旅行) around the park. You must check weather conditions and volcanic activity before hiking alone. If possible, you may drive down Chain of Craters Road to see lava flowing into the ocean. Tickets Entrance to the park is $10.00 for each vehicle, $5.00 for those who travel on foot or ride a bicycle. Children under the age of 15 are free. 25. Different from Mauna Loa, Kilauea _____. A. will disappear soon B. is closed to visitors C. erupts more often D. is much bigger 26. The Kilauea Visitor Center _____. A. offers all kinds of movies B. is next to the park entrance C. is open for 8 hours every day D. introduces visitors to the park 27. If a family of three drives a car into the park, they need to pay _____. A. $5.00 B. $10.00 C. $15.00 D. $20.00 28. The text is most probably taken from _____. A. a geography textbook B. a newspaper report C. a travel magazine D. a research paper C Having a teenager at home can be a real headache. Many teenagers smoke, drink and even fight. They often do something dangerous. Earlier studies have shown that teenagers are more likely to make irrational decisions than people from any other age group, including children and adults. Is it that teenagers are too young to tell right from wrong? Not really. So what's the reason? According to Laurence, a teacher from a US university, the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers (同龄人) view them—that is “peer influence”. As children enter their teenage years, they spend more time with their friends and classmates, and also they care more about what they think of them. This makes teenagers make decisions without thinking about the costs. In a test, a group of teenagers were asked to play a video driving game. When they played with their friends watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning. But when they played alone, they drove more safely. Why do peers have such a big influence on teens' behavior? As Laurence sees it, a teenager's brain is like a car with a good accelerator (油门) but a weak brake (刹车). The “accelerator” is fully developed by teenage years while the “brake” is still not fully developed. When teenagers are watched by their peers, they usually push hard on the accelerator. With their weak brake, it is likely that they are going to end up in an accident. But the good news is that a violent teenager doesn't necessarily become a violent adult. About two thirds to three quarters of violent youth grow out of it. “They get more self-controlled.” 29.What does the underlined word “irrational” in the second paragraph mean? A.Quick. B.Crazy. C.Careful. D.Correct. 30. Why are teenagers likely to make wrong decisions according to the text? A.They like difficult tasks. B.They don't care about costs. C.They are too young to tell right from wrong. D.They care a lot about what their peers think of them. 31.How does Laurence explain the influence of peer pressure on teens' behavior? A.By comparing it with how a car works. B.By comparing it with an accident. C.By showing research findings. D.By giving examples. 32. What can we learn from the text? A.Teenagers are easy to have traffic accidents. B.Peer influence is bad on teenagers. C.Most of the teenagers become less violent when they grow up. D.Teenagers shouldn’t spend all the free time with their friends. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Bedrooms Bedrooms are very important. In fact, you spend one third of your life in yours. This means that you probably don't want a boring bedroom. You will not want a bedroom full of so many things that you can't get to your bed, or that is painted in your least favorite color. 33 When you are designing a bedroom and you don't know what to do with some space in the corner, you may want to see if you can fit in a desk or a small sitting area. 34 You might want to fill this space to get some more storage (储存) space or have somewhere to have some privacy. Furniture is not the only thing to consider when you design your bedroom. 35 If you aren't sure what to do, just keep your walls and furniture white, and make sure that little things are also in the same style. 36 You can put up dry erase boards, chalkboards, and pictures to give your room some style. You may also want to put in a bedside table. Those are great ways to show others some of your favorite photos and lovely toys. Finally, try to find something that adds energy and life to your bedroom. 37 A. You also need to consider color. B. You could also put in a bookshelf to create space. C. Besides, you might have some wall space to use up. D. This means you will need to plan out your bedroom. E. Don't choose a heavy, large bed for a small bedroom. F. Of course, plants help a lot and they can also keep the air clean. G. If you love to read in bed, a small bedside table probably won't work. “Fire!
