Therefore, I rarely focused on algebra. Nobody told me that if you keep trying and trying, one day a difficult task will seem easy. Actually, I learnt this from my young daughter, Samaya. One day, I was finishing some paperwork and I said, “Oh no, how could I have made that mistake!” Samaya instantly said, “Mum, don't worry. Mistakes make your brain grow bigger.” Actually, we all need to be reminded that mistakes or failures are just fine and that they are a huge part of growth and success. However, the regular belief is the opposite. We must correct this with our children. We must encourage them to make mistakes because that means they are trying out new ideas. Billionaire Sara Blakely, founder of the shapewear business Spanx, has seen many failures. She made a living by selling fax machines for seven years. Knocking on many doors and making a lot of mistakes was a journey she calls educational. Sara Blakely owes her risk-taking skills to the weekend talk she had with her father. As a child, her father would ask her the same question every weekend. "What did you fail at this week, Sara?" He did not care how high her scores were. He wanted to know what she had tried but failed at. When she told him about her failures and mistakes, he would give her a high five. He was reprogramming her mind to believe that mistakes and failures are fine. So go ahead and ask yourself and your children, “What did we fail at this week?” 19.What discouraged the author from efforts in algebra? A.She wasn't interested in it. B.She thought she was not gifted. C.She thought it was useless. D.She was not allowed to learn it. 20.What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Keep trying is necessary. B.Failure is a path to success. C.Mistakes are not acceptable. D.Encouragement is significant. 21.Why did Sara's father keep asking her the same question? A.To rebuild her mindset. B.To keep her from failures. C.To know what she hadn't tried. D.To prevent her getting high scores. 22.What would be the best title for the text? A.A Secret to Success B.A Method of Education C.The Magic of Mistakes D.The Power of a Fixed Mindset C A shocking 53.6 million tons of electronic waste were discarded(丢弃)last year, a new UN-backed report has revealed. The report shows that e-waste is up 21% from five years ago. This isn't surprising, considering how many more people are adopting new technology and updating devices regularly to have the latest versions, but the report also shows that national collection and recycling strategies are nowhere close to matching consumption rates. E-waste contains materials including copper(铜), iron, gold and silver, which the report gives a conservative value of $ 57 billion. But most are thrown away or burned rather than being collected for recycling. Precious metals in waste are estimated to be worth $ 14 billion, but only $4 billion-worth is recovered at the moment. While the number of countries with national e-waste policies has grown from 61 to 78 since 2014, there is little encouragement to obey and a mere 17% of collected items are recycled. If recycling does occur, it's often under dangerous conditions, such as burning circuit boards to recover copper, which "releases highly poisonous metals" and harms the health of workers. The report found that Asia has the highest amounts of waste overall, producing 24.9 million metric tons (MMT), followed by Europe at 12 MMT, Africa at 2.9 MMT, and Oceania at 0.7 MMT. But whose responsibility is it? Are governments in charge of setting up collection and recycling points, or should companies be responsible for recycling the goods they produce? It goes both ways. Companies do need to be held accountable by government regulations and have incentives to design products that are easily repaired. At the same time, governments need to make it easy for citizens to access collection points and deal with their broken electronics in a convenient way. Otherwise, they may turn to the easiest option - the landfill. 23.What can we learn from the first paragraph? A.What e-waste refers to. B.Where e-waste is collected. C.Why e-waste is increasing rapidly. D.How many kinds e-waste includes. 24.What do the statistics in paragraph 2 show? A.The functions of policies. B.The great damage to environment. C.The change of consumption rates. D.The urgency of recovering e-waste. 25.How should the problem be solved according to the passage? A.New technology should be used to update old devices. B.Governments and companies should take responsibilities. C.Non-poisonous metals had better be used in e-device. D.Citizens must play a key role in recycling e-waste. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项是多余选项。 Regular exercise is a vital part of leading a healthy lifestyle. 26 Signs of over-training include decreased performance, chronic(慢性的) tiredness, and mood swings. Here are some advice on treating exercise-related conditions: Take a break from exercising for 1 to 2 weeks. If you experience tiredness, mood swings, or any other symptoms of over-training, give your body a break. In most cases, 1 to 2 weeks is all it’ll take. You can do yoga or stretching during the time off. When you start exercising again, take it slow, and rest a muscle group for at least a day. 27 . See your doctor if resting for 1 to 2 weeks doesn’t help. 28 They can diagnose an injury and recommend a treatment plan for your specific needs. They might also recommend you to see a mental health professional. It might also be helpful to get help from a personal trainer or physiotherapist. They can help you determine if you are over-training and make a healthy exercise plan for you. 29 For some people, the drugs can help get rid of feelings of anxiety or obsession related to over-training and compulsive (强迫的) exercise. You might need to try different medicines and amounts before you find the best solution. Side effects could include nausea, constipation, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight gain. Tell your doctor if you experience these or any other side effects. Talk to an advisor about compulsive exercise or an eating disorder. 30 An advisor can help you make this distinction and, if necessary, identify why exercise has become a compulsion. A. Schedule an appointment with your primary doctor. B. However, exercising too much can cause significant health risks. C. When you begin exercising again, stick to 45 minutes or less per day. D.
