M: Sounds interesting. My boss has been looking for someone to work as a part-time secretary for quite some time, so if this place doesn’t work for you, let me know.
W: Thanks. So, what would you like? Have you tried the vegetable soup?
M: Of course. I have been coming here for years. I know the menu well.

W: The typical American diet is similar in many ways to the diet in Britain. English people and Americans both enjoy a breakfast of sausages, eggs and bacon. For lunch and dinner both of them often eat potatoes, meat and some vegetables. Both Americans and Europeans like to eat fast food. Pizza, French fries and hamburgers are popular among all ages because of their taste and convenience. However, Europeans and Americans differ in the amount of food they eat. A typical sandwich in America may contain five times more meat than a sandwich in England. A small lunch in America would be considered huge in England. Another difference is in the fact that Americans eat more junk food than Europeans. A supermarket in America may have up to 50 different kinds of ice cream and hundreds of kinds of chocolate. Americans eat more desserts and kinds of candy than Europeans.
Research in America has shown that many Americans are overweight. In recent years, Americans have become more concerned about their weight and their eating habits have changed. Parents encourage their children to eat fruit instead of candy and to drink water instead of soft drinks. Health food supermarkets are popular and many Americans eat more Asian food, like tofu, because they know it’s good for their health. The American government encourages its people to be healthy because it can reduce the cost of health care in America.
