When I wake up I don't get up immediately. I turn on the television and watch the children's programmes and old movies until about half-past ten. Then I get up, go downstairs and switch on the TV in the living room. For lunch, I have biscuits and a glass of milk, and I watch the news. In the afternoon, I often watch another old film – they're showing some good ones at the moment. In the evenings, I often watch TV series or sport and the news again. I like the main news at six o'clock. At half past nine, if there is a good play on BBC 2, I switch over and watch it. Then at night, I watch more films and I usually switch off the TV at about two o'clock. I never watch TV all night. I watch TV for sixteen or seventeen hours a day. I also do some exercise every day. I take Tina, the dog, for a walk every afternoon. I don't go far, of course. I walk to the wall outside my house. I always take my portable TV and I sit on the stone wall while the dog walks round in a circle. Of course, I couldn't live this lifestyle without a good wife. She's not here now because she's working, but she always makes my meals. We haven't got much money, you know, but we're happy. Sit down and watch TV. Here's the remote control. You've got the world at your feet. And in your hand. Great! 21. Which of the following statements can best explain the title “a couch potato” ? A. Having a biscuit and a glass of milk for lunch. B. Doing some exercise everyday. C. Taking the dog for a walk every afternoon. D. Watching TV for sixteen or seventeen hours a day. 22. When walking the dog, what does Bob Black always take? A. A cellphone. B. His portable TV. C. Some books. D. Plastic bags. 23. What can we know about Bob Black from this passage? A. He loves his wife pretty much. B. He often quarrels with his wife. C. He likes his lifestyle. D. He is a pet lover. B Be a good tourist Tourism can be both good or bad. Yes, it brings in money for the local economy and creates lots of jobs for locals, but it may also bring some problems. One growing problem is tourists who want to prove that they have visited someplace. Tourists have used paint, rocks or even keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK, memorial stones at the bottom of Qomolangma, and many, many other places. Thousands of tourists sites are being destroyed by tourists who “love them to death”. I have three words for people like this: please stop it. If you want to leave a mark on the world, do it by changing someone’s life with kindness and love. Pass kindness along to future generations, not destruction. Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing(打扰) the local people and life. Some tourists wander around and take pictures of local people without asking for their permission. For example, Chiang Mai University in Thailand and Yonsei University in South Korea have great numbers of tourists visiting their campuses and walking through their libraries and other public areas, taking pictures of students and disturbing their studies. I have three words for tourists like this: please be considerate. Have fun in a way that does not disturb others. The number of problems from tourists is endless: walking in large groups without considering others who need to walk by, crossing roads without observing local traffic laws, and many more. The only way to solve the issue of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one! Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist possible. Remember, whenever you step outside your country’s borders, you are representing(代表) your country to the rest of the world. 24. What does “them” in the second paragraph refer to ? A. Memorial stones. B. Jobs for locals. C. Tourist spots. D. Marks left by tourists. 25. What kind of mark does the writer suggest that tourists should take ? A. Kind behaviour that can change someone’s life. B. Love and destruction that will have an effect on future generations. C. A lot of money brought by tourism. D. Only beautiful pictures taken by tourists. 26. What does the writer intend to tell us by the third paragraph? A. Tourists can wander around and take pictures anywhere. B. Tourists should try not to cause trouble for local people and life. C. For all universities, admission should be free and everybody is welcome. D. More university campuses should be open to the public. 27. According to the writer, what is the only way to solve the problem of the terrible tourist ? A. Providing better service. B. Developing local economy. C. Being a polite tourist. D. Making friends during traveling. C Anti-smoking ad campaign Every year millions people around the world die because of smoking. Every pocket of contains poisonous chemicals that can lead to lung cancer and heart disease. This costs countries a lot of money and causes great damage to the welfare of the people. There are huge numbers of smokers in Asia. This is why anti-smoking is chosen as the subject of our ad campaign. The target audience is high-school teenagers. Our main aim is to discourage young people from smoking. Our research shows that health and future is what young people care about. We will educate them about the bad physical effects of smoking and how smoking affects those people around them. We will explain all the advantages of not smoking, such as saving money which can then be spent on other things. Our interviews also indicate that young people are concerned about what is cool and what their friends like. We will show how smoking is not cool or attractive, because it makes people smell terrible, and gives them bad teeth, skin and fingernails. If we can convince young people not to start, they might then urge their parents and other people to give up smoking, too. Our campaign will start on 31 May, World No Tobacco Day. We will put large posters around the school with our logo and slogan. Our website will provide students with more information about smoking. We will also publish an article in the school magazine informing students about the dangers of smoking, and we will organize an essay competition as well. Our slogan: Smoking kills! Many people think that smoking is cool or enjoyable, but they are not fully aware of the damage that it does to their health. This is why we choose this picture as our logo. We want to shock people into realizing that many smokers die all too soon from illnesses and diseases related to smoking. 28.What is one of the reasons for anti-smoking according to paragraph one? A. Smoking will not cause lung cancer deaths and other related disease. B. Website will provide students with information about smoking. C. The welfare of people may be positively affected. D. There is a large number of smokers in Asia. 29. What is the main aim of the anti-smoking campaign? A. To prevent young people from smoking. B. To inform continuous improvement efforts by school. C. To attract widespread media attention around the world. D. To educate people about the bad physical effects of smoking. 30. On which day will the campaign start? A. On 31 May. B. On 30 May. C. On 30 March. D. On 31 March. 31. Why do they choose the picture—‘Smoking kills’ as their logo? A. Because they have organized a competition for this logo. B. Because many people think smoking cool or enjoyable. C. Because people have realized the damage smoking does to their health. D. Because people are fully unaware of harm smoking causes to people’s health. D Avoiding a handshake may have been considered impolite a couple of years ago, but it is now getting more and more common, especially because of the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus( COVID-19) . Health officials have expressed the importance of completely washing our hands and maintaining proper hand hygiene(卫生). As a result, people around the world are creating alternatives for handshakes such as fist bumps(碰,撞)and “elbow-bumps.” Let’s take a look at some of the common greetings that are used around the world in place of the famous handshake and more of the alternatives people are using instead of shaking each others’ hands. If you have ever traveled to Asian countries like China, India, or Cambodia, you may notice that it is common to see people bowing to greet each other. Bowing is a traditional sign of respect in many Asian cultures and has been a custom for centuries. Meanwhile, in parts of Europe like France, Italy, and Spain; countries in Latin/South America like Mexico, Peru, and Brazil, the air kiss is more common. Various rules regarding gender, relationship, and form also exist within these different countries. Officials in countries including France are recommending people avoid direct kisses. Some other unique greetings include sniffing(嗅,闻) one another’s faces in native cultures in the island nations of Greenland and Tuvalu, sticking out one’s tongue in Tibet (a region of China), and clapping one’s hands in the African countries of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. With the spread of COVID-19, people are getting creative with the ways they greet each other. A trend that has gained advantage is the “Wuhan Shake,” a greeting where two people gently bump each other’s feet with each foot. Additionally, people, including famous figures like Prince Harry, US Vice President Mike Pence, and celebrities and athletes, have been giving up the formal handshake for elbow bumps. Although officials have not clearly issued warnings against shaking hands, many doctors and health specialists have praised the handshake alternatives as a way to continue maintaining proper hygiene. 32. How do people commonly greet each other in India according to this passage ? A. By hugging each other. B. By formally shaking hands. C. By bowing to greet each other. D. By touching noses. 33. What is the unique greeting in Tibet ? A. Sniffing one another’ s faces. B. Sticking out one’s tongue. C. Bowing with one’s hands. D. Clapping one’s hands. 34. What is the “Wuhan Shake” ? A. It is a greeting of tapping each other' s feet. B. It is a greeting in which people do elbow bumps. C. It is a greeting where social isolation happens. D. It is a greeting where air kisses are recommended. 35. What can be the best title for the text ? A. The Impact Of COVID-19 On Living B. Good News On COVID-19 Vaccines C. No Problem! 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Albert Einstein said, “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal.” I agree. Goals are important in many ways.
