This movie follows the fictional story in which the simple man makes his way through some of the more turbulent(动荡的)times from the 1960s through 1980s. This film took home six Oscars, inspired a “Weird Al” song, and proves that a big heart is the most important thing. It’s a Wonderful Life(1946) No movie list would be complete without a nod to the past. Let’s go with this Christmas classic, about a man with serious financial troubles who intends to commit suicide(自杀)by jumping off a bridge. His guardian angel Clarence Odbody stops him and tells him what life would have been like for those close to him had he never been born. Realizing how much he means to others, he rushes back home and all sorts of happy, inspirational, Christmassy things happen. Dead Poet’s Society(1990) John Keating(Robin Williams)is a high school English literature teacher at a famous all-male boarding school who gets into trouble with the school administration after encouraging his students to challenge authority and think for themselves. It is certainly inspirational, if not also frustratingly sad. A Beautiful Mind(2001) This movie tells the story of John Nash(Russell Crowe), a professor at Princeton, a US university, who revolutionized the field of game theory and fell into madness as a result of paranoid schizophrenia(精神分裂症). With the love and support of his family as well as the help of medical professionals, he managed to overcome his mental illness and continued to make contributions to the field of mathematics. 21.What can we know about It’s a Wonderful Life? He wanted to show them the best gift he had received in many years: a new pair of gloves. They are not just any gloves, however. The specially made bionic(仿生)devices are letting the 79-year-old play with both hands for the first time in more than 20 years. Martins’s health problems could date back to 1965. He suffered nerve damage in his arm from a soccer injury. And while he was on tour, a robber hit him over the head with a metal pipe in Bulgaria. Even his close friends believed that his career as a pianist would come to an end. By his retirement last March, he had gone through 24 medical procedures to try to reduce pain caused by a series of accidents. As a result, he had been forced to work mostly as a musical conductor since the early 2000s. However, one designer believed Martins’s retirement had come too early. That designer, Ubirata Bizarro Costa, created special bionic gloves for Martins’s hands. The gloves help move his fingers up after they press on the piano keys. Costa said he created early models based on images of Martins’s hands, but that those models were “far from ideal”. He then decided to tell Martins about his efforts and they together spent several months testing different models. The perfect match came in December, and cost only$125 to build. These days, Martins never takes off his new magic gloves, even when he goes to sleep. Martins said he had received more than 100 devices in the last 50 years as possible solutions to his hand problems. None worked well or long enough. “But these gloves do,” he said. The new gloves have given Martins a new goal. He hopes to play the piano at New York’s Carnegie Hall in October. He has already been preparing a concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of his first appearance there. 24.Which of the following is true about Joao Carlos Martins? D.A soccer lover who was hit over the head during a match. 25.What is special about Martins’s new gloves? A.They have been around for a long time. B.They are considered to be far from ideal. C.They enable Martins to play with two hands. D.They are developed mainly for the disabled. 26.In the process of creation, Costa did the following EXCEPT that________. A.he perfected the gloves together with Martins. B.he spent several months testing different models. C.he made early models based on images of Martins’s hands. D.he insisted on building the new gloves despite the high price. 27.What’s the best title for the text? A.Technology Improves People’s Life B.Martins Receives the Best Christmas Gift C.Costa Creates the Special Gloves for Martins D.Magic Gloves Let Brazilian Pianist Play Again C The Sahara Festival is a celebration of the very recent past. The three-day event is not fixed to the same dates each year, but generally takes place in November or December. It is well attended by tourists, but even better attended by locals. During the opening ceremonies(典礼), after the official greetings from the government leaders, people who attend the festival begin to march smartly before the viewing stands, and white camels transport their riders across the sands. Horsemen from different nations display their beautiful clothes and their fine horsemanship. One following another, groups of musicians and dancers from all over the Sahara take their turn to show off their wonderful traditional culture. Groups of men in blue and yellow play horns and beat drums as they dance in different designs. On their knees in the sand, a group of women in long dark dresses dance with their hair: their long, dark, shiny hair is thrown back and forth in the wind to the rhythm of their dance. The local and visiting Italian dogs are anxious to run after hares. The crowd is on its feet for the camel races. Camels and riders run far into the distance, and then return to the finish line in front of the cheering people. Towards the evening, there comes the grand finale of the opening day, an extremely exciting horserace. All the riders run very fast on horseback. Some riders hang off the side of their saddles. Some even ride upside down - their legs and feet straight up in the air - all at full speed. Others rush down the course together, men arm in arm, on different horses. On and on they went. So fast and so wonderful! 28.This passage mainly tells readers________. A.how people celebrate during the three-day Sahara Festival B.what takes place at the closing ceremonies of the Sahara Festival C.how animals race on the first and the last days of the Sahara Festival D.what happens on the opening day of the Sahara Festival 29.The Sahara Festival is a festival which________. While some of us throw away unwanted items, people in other parts of the world face food shortages and are starving. It’s a shocking fact that a third of the world’s food is wasted each year, which is enough to feed a billion hungry people. You may think supermarkets are the main contributors to this mountain of food. After all, they do desert stuff that is past its sell-by-date and they often refuse to sell fruits or vegetables that are in the wrong shape or look damaged. They’ve also been criticized for encouraging customers to buy more than they need through promotions such as “buy one and get one free”. But the biggest culprit for creating food waste is us human beings. In Europe, an incredible 53% of food waste comes from households, which results in 88 million tons of food waste a year. So instead of filling our bellies, our food is filling up landfill sites. In Denmark, a woman called Selina Juul has been working hard to solve this problem. She moved from Russia many years ago and was amazed to see the abundance of food available in the supermarkets. But despite so much availability, she found that people were buying more than they needed and throwing too much away. She convinced some supermarkets to stop selling their items in bulk (大量) so that people bought only what they needed. She produced a leftover cookbook and set up an education program in schools, which has helped create a significant 25% reduction in food waste. Clearly, we need to think twice when we buy something in supermarkets or online, and when we’re at home we should make the most of the food we have - using recipes that use up our leftovers or even sharing our remaining food with our friends and neighbors. 32.Why are supermarkets to blame for food waste? A.They store spare items. B.They damage bad stuff. C.They display new arrivals. D.They hold sales promotion. 33.What does the underlined word “culprit” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Benefit. B.Demand. C.Cause. D.Challenge. 34.What do we know about Selina Juul? A.She contributed to reducing food waste. B.She made an extraordinary discovery. C.She was a pioneer in cooking leftovers. D.She focused on the availability of food. 35.What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph? A.Start sharing extra food. B.Switch to online shopping. C.Increase the varieties of food. D.Improve our cooking methods. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Handmade Card from Me to You When I was 9 years old, I received my first handmade card from a classmate, who had just moved to New Jersey. I helped him in his hard time adjusting to his new school. So he made me a card. It was a folded piece of paper from his notebook, with a picture of us he’d drawn on the front. There were only a few sentences inside. 36 Special handwritten cards take time and effort to make and feel very personal. Like photos, cards can be stored and looked back on. You can make your own unique card with supplies you have at home. What’s most important is the message you write inside. 37 But getting a handwritten card or letter can make someone who needs it feel appreciated. The first step is to think of a person for whom you’ d like to make a card. 38 There are many types: Thank-you cards, congratulation cards, holiday cards, and I’m-sorry cards which are just a few. 39 A big trip for writing a card to keep the person you’re making it for in mind while you work. You can ask yourself some questions while writing: What are your favorite memories of that person? What do you appreciate most about him or her? Your words can be as sweet or as funny as you want. If they’re personal, the message will be special. Last, sign your name at the bottom. 40 The recipient(收件人)like me will keep the card to reread sometime far in the future. A.Don’t forget to include the date. B.Or you can buy a card from a store. C.Now it’s time to gather your thoughts. D.This is the easiest but least rewarding part. E.But those words meant a lot to me at the time. F.It can be hard to put your feelings into words. G.Next, think about what kind of card you’d like to make. 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Hello, everyone.
