The villagers have told him that they will not accept the inn even if he gives it away.    Lesson48 Did you want to tell me something? 你想对我说什么吗？ Dentists always ask questions when it is impossible for you to answer. My dentist had just pulled out one of my teeth and had told me to rest for a while. I tried to say something, but my mouth was full of cotton-wool. He knew I collected birds' eggs and asked me whether my collection was growing. He then asked me how my brother was and whether I liked my new job in London. In answer to these questions I either nodded or made strange noises. Meanwhile, my tongue was busy searching out the hole where the tooth had been. I suddenly felt very worried, but could not say anything. When the dentist at last removed the cotton-wool from my mouth, I was able to tell him that he had pulled out the wrong tooth.    Lesson49 The end of a dream 美梦告终 Tired of sleeping on the floor, a young man in Teheran saved up for years to buy a real bed. For the first time in his life, he became the proud owner of a bed which had springs and a mattress. Because the weather was very hot, he carried the bed on to the roof of his house. He slept very well for the first two nights, but on the third night, a storm blew up. A gust of wind swept the bed off the roof and sent it crashing into the courtyard below. The young man did not wake up until the bed had struck the ground. Although the bed was smashed to pieces, the man was miraculously unhurt. When he woke up, he was still on the mattress. Glancing at the bits of wood and metal that lay around him, the man sadly picked up the mattress and carried it into his house. After he  had put it on the floor, he promptly went to sleep again.   Lesson50 Taken for a ride 乘车兜风 I love travelling in the country, but I don't like losing my way. I went on an excursion recently, but my trip took me longer than I expected.  ' I'm going to Woodford Green,' I said to the conductor as I got on the bus,' but I don't know where it is.' ' I'll tell you where to get off,' answered the conductor.  I sat in the front of the bus to get a good view of the countryside. After some time, the bus stopped. Looking round, I realized with a shock that I was the only passenger left on the bus.  ' You'll have to get off here,' the conductor said. 'This is as far as we go.' ' Is this Woodford Green ?' I asked. 'Oh dear,' said the conductor suddenly.' I forgot to put you off.' 'It doesn't matter,' I said. 'I'll get off here.' 'We are going back now,' said the conductor. 'Well, in that case, I prefer to stay on the bus,' I answered.   Lesson51 Reward for virtue 对美德的奖赏 My friend, Herbert, has always been fat, but things got so bad recently that he decided to go on a diet. He began his diet a week ago. First of all, he wrote out a long list of all the foods which were forbidden. The list included most of the things Herbert loves: butter, potatoes, rice, beer, milk, chocolate, and sweets. Yesterday I paid him a visit. I rang the bell and was not surprised to see that Herbert was still as fat as ever. He led me into his room and hurriedly hid a large parcel under his desk. It was obvious that he was very embarrassed. When I asked him what he was doing, he smiled guiltily and then put the parcel on the desk. He explained that his diet was so strict that he had to reward himself occasionally. Then he showed me the contents of the parcel. It contained five large bars of chocolate and three bags of sweets!    Lesson52 A pretty carpet 漂亮的地毯 We have just moved into a new house and I have been working hard all morning. I have been trying to get my new room in order. This has not been easy because I own over a thousand books. To make matters worse, the room is rather small, so I have temporarily put my books on the floor. At the moment, they cover every inch of floor space and I actually have to walk on them to get in or out of the room. A short while ago, my sister helped me to carry one of my old bookcases up the stairs. She went into my room and got a big surprise when she saw all those books on the floor. 'This is the prettiest carpet I have ever seen,' she said. She gazed at it for some time then added, 'You don't need bookcases at all. You can sit here in your spare time and read the carpet!'    Lesson53 Hot snake 触电的蛇 At last firemen have put out a big forest fire in California. Since then, they have been trying to find out how the fire began. Forest fire are often caused by broken glass or by cigarette ends which people carelessly throw away. Yesterday the firemen examined the ground carefully, but were not able to find any broken glass. They were also quite sure that a cigarette end did not start the fire. This morning, however, a fireman accidentally discovered the cause. He noticed the remains of a snake which was wound round the electric wires of a 16,000-volt power line. In this way, he was able to solve the mystery. The explanation was simple but very unusual. A bird had snatched up the snake from the ground and then dropped it on to the wires. The snake then wound itself round the wires. When it did so, it sent sparks down to the ground and these immediately started a fire.   Lesson54 Sticky fingers 粘糊的手指 After breakfast, I sent the children to school and then I went to market. It was still early when I returned home. The children were at school, my husband was at work and the house was quiet. So I decided to make some tarts for tea. In a short time I was busy mixing butter and flour and my hands were soon covered with sticky pastry. At exactly that moment, the telephone rang. Nothing could have been more annoying. I picked up the receiver between two sticky fingers and was dismayed when I recognized the voice of Mrs Bates. It took me ten minutes to persuade her to ring back later. At last I hung up the receiver. What a mess! There was pastry on my fingers, on the telephone, and on the door-knobs. I had no sooner got back to the kitchen than the door-bell rang loud enough to wake the dead. This time it was the postman and he wanted me to sign for a registered letter !   Lesson55 Not a gold mine 并非金矿 Dreams of finding lost treasure almost came true recently. A new machine called 'The Revealer' has been invented and it has been used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground. The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where--it is said--pirates used to hide gold. The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it. Armed with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure. The leader of the party was examining the soil near the entrance to the cave when the machine showed that there was gold under the ground. Very excited, the party dug a hole two feet deep. They finally found a small gold coin which was almost worthless. The party then searched the whole cave thoroughly but did not find anything except an empty tin trunk. In spite of this, many people are confident that 'The Revealer' may reveal something of value fairly soon.   Lesson56 Faster than sound! 比声音还快！ Once a year a race is held for old cars. A lot of cars entered for this race last year and there was a great deal of excitement just before it began. One of the most handsome cars was a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. The most unusual car was a Benz which had only three wheels. Built in 1885, it was the oldest car taking part. After a great many loud explosions, the race began. Many of the cars broke down on the course and some drivers spent more time under their cars than in them ! A few cars, however, completed the race. The winning car reached a speed of forty miles an hour--much faster than any of its rivals. It sped downhill at the end of the race and its driver had a lot of trouble trying to stop it. The race gave everyone a great deal of pleasure. It was very different from modern car races but no less exciting.    Lesson57 Can I help you, madam? 你要买什么，夫人？ A woman in blue jeans stood at the window of an expensive shop. Though she hesitated for a moment, she finally went in and asked to see a dress that was in the window. The assistant who served her did not like the way she was dressed. Glancing at her scornfully, he told her that the dress was sold. The woman walked out of the shop angrily and decided to punish the assistant next day. She returned to the shop the following morning dressed in a fur coat, with a handbag in one hand and a long umbrella in the other. After seeking out the rude assistant she asked for the same dress. Not realizing who she was, the assistant was eager to serve her this time with great difficulty, he climbed into the shop window to get the dress. As soon as she saw it, the woman said she did not like it. She enjoyed herself making the assistant bring almost everything in the window before finally buying the dress she had first asked for.   Lesson58 A blessing in disguise? 是因祸得福吗？ The tiny village of Frinley is said to possess a 'cursed tree'. Because the tree was mentioned in a newspaper, the number of visitors to Frinley has now increased. The tree was planted near a church fifty years ago, but it is only in recent years that it has gained an evil reputation. It is said that if anyone touches the tree, he will have bad luck; if he picks a leaf, he will die. Many villagers believe that the tree has already claimed a number of victims. The vicar has been asked to have the tree cut down, but so far he has refused. He has pointed out that the tree is a useful source of income as tourists have been coming from all parts of the country to see it. In spite of all that has been said, the tourists-have been picking leaves and cutting their names on the tree-trunk. So far, not one of them has been struck down by sudden death!   Lesson59 In or out ？ 进来还是出去？ Our dog, Rex, used to sit outside our front gate and bark. Every time he wanted to come into the garden he would bark until someone opened the gate. As the neighbours complained of the noise, my husband spent weeks training him to press his paw on the latch to let himself in. Rex soon became an expert at opening the gate. However, when I was going out shopping last week, I noticed him in the garden near the gate. This time he was barking so that someone would let him out ! Since then, he has developed another bad habit. As soon as he opens the gate from the outside, he comes into the garden and waits until the gate shuts. Then he sits and barks until someone lets him out. After this he immediately lets himself in and begins barking again. Yesterday my husband removed the gate and Rex got so annoyed we have not seen him since.      Lesson60 The future 卜算未来 At a village fair, I decided to visit a fortune-teller called Madam Bellinsky. I went into her tent and she told me to sit down. After I had given her some money, she looked into a crystal ball and said: 'A relation of yours is coming to see you. She will be arriving this evening and intends to stay for a few days. The moment you leave this tent, you will get a big surprise. A woman you know well will rush towards you. She will speak to you and then she will lead you away from this place. That is all.' As soon as I went outside, I forgot all about Madam Bellinsky because my wife hurried towards me. （五）规划目标与内容
魔芋种植与绿色食品深加工项目主要利用当前农业产业结构调整和规模化经营的机遇，建成公司+专业合作社+农户的农业产业化发展模式，开发3000亩魔芋基地建设，抓好魔芋产品精深加工，延长魔芋产业链，提高魔芋产业的经济效益。具体建设内容如下：
1、建成魔芋种植基地3000亩，引进魔芋优良品种，提高魔芋

2、建成一个专业合作社一个，负责全镇的基地建设技术培训与指导，搞好产后服务，解决农民魔芋销售问题，提高农民种植魔芋的积极性；
3、建成一个魔芋精粉加工企业，提高魔芋加工技术水平和魔芋产品的质量档次，增加魔芋产品的附加值，提高经济效益，促进魔芋产业可持续发展。

1、实施地点：**镇青山村、王排村、黄金坪村、坪庄垅村、洞庭村，黄金村，当家村，提高村为生产基地。
2、实施规模：种植魔芋3000亩，年产魔芋6000吨。
二、魔芋种植项目背景
（一）魔芋对人体健康的价值
魔芋又名磨芋，中国古名蒟蒻，传入日本后承袭其名，至今仍称蒟蒻，而在中国蒟蒻之名在民间已失传。
    中国的魔芋医药历史悠久，约成书于汉末的《名医别录》已有记载。魔芋的球茎作为中医药，其性寒、味辛、有毒，主要功能为消肿、攻毒，主治痈疮、肿毒、结块等症，以及毒蛇咬伤、肿瘤、颈淋巴结核、疔疮、疝气等，多作外用，内服须久煎。
    中国的营养和公共卫生专家教授对魔芋的保健、医疗作用作了许多临床试验研究，结论基本一致。魔芋葡甘聚糖属水溶性半纤维素，其突出的营养保健功能在于能发挥膳食纤维对营养不平衡的调节作用，它与白菜、芹菜等蔬菜类中所含非水溶性的纤维，进入人体后原形排出者不同，它能参与人体的代谢作用及影响肠道菌相有利于健康的方向变化。魔芋精粉的主要保健、医疗功能有以下几方面：
    1、预防和治疗便秘
    随饮食精化和年龄老化，便秘患者急剧增加，预防便秘主要是饮食中增加膳食纤维的含量，而魔芋就属于优质高膳食纤维食品。
    2、调节脂质代谢
    冠心病已成为人类主要死因之一。目前研究结论得出血浆胆固醇水平与动脉粥样硬化和冠心病的发病率密切相关。可溶性膳食纤维通过与肠内胆酸结合，增加胆酸排泄，使体内胆酸合成增加，从而降低血胆固醇水平，还可减少其胆道排泄时积聚形成胆石和胆酸代谢产物的可能致癌作用。据试验，不溶性粗纤维无降血脂效果，而可溶性纤维才有降血脂效果。国内外均有报导，魔芋能显著降低血胆固醇及甘油三脂水平；且血脂达正常水平后不再持续下降，起到调节脂质代谢，预防高脂血症的作用。
   3、改善糖代谢
    控制饮食是糖尿病治疗的重要措施。膳食纤维不被消化吸收，不含热量，又有饱腹感，且能减少和延缓葡萄糖的吸收，是糖尿病良好的辅助药物。研究表明，可溶性纤维才有显著改善糖代谢的作用，而不溶性纤维则无明显作用。当前权威研究证实；对糖尿病患者给予魔芋精粉（即粗制葡甘露聚糖），或魔芋食品，均能降低血糖水平。
    4、减肥作用
    美国Walsh用双盲法肯定了魔芋的减肥作用。国内也得到进一步证实。膳食纤维在胃内的充盈作用，增加了饱腹感，同时可减少产热营养素的吸收。膳食中增加一定量魔芋可达预防肥胖和缓慢减肥的目的。
    5、其他作用
    文献报道，有不少非淀粉多糖有调节机体免疫功能的作用，能增强非特异性免疫、细胞免疫、体液免疫功能中的一个或几个方面，彭恕生等研究（1994）表明，魔芋精粉能提高正常小鼠和免疫抑制状态小鼠的特异性和非特异性免疫功能，具有免疫调节活性。
    流行病学调查和部分实验研究表明，膳食纤维对结肠癌、乳腺癌等有一定预防作用。预防癌症的机理可能是可溶性纤维大量吸水稀释了肠道致癌物质和前致癌物的浓度，并加强它们排出体外。张茂玉等研究指出，还影响肠道菌相变化，厌氧菌增加，厌氧菌中的双歧杆菌，有抗肿瘤作用，加速可疑致癌物胆汁酸的代谢产物的排泄。
    从以上膳食纤维五个方面的保健和医疗作用看，魔芋主成分葡甘聚糖属可溶性半纤维素，在发挥上述五个方面的作用上其效果远远超过一般蔬菜所含不溶性纤维。
（二）魔芋在食品饮料中的应用
    魔芋是优良的可溶性膳食纤维，有辅助医疗和保健作用，作为食品或添加于食品、饮料中可增进健康，改善品质，自古受到中国和日本人的喜受。1998年中国
