They have already become part of our daily language. And 239 English words have been included in the latest Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese.
The inclusion has started a heated discussion. A group of scholars signed a letter of complaint over the inclusion of these English words, which, they think, goes against Chinese language policies. They not only worry that Chinese is borrowing an increasing number of English words but are also concerned that the inclusion may hurt the dignity of the Chinese language. However, others are in favor of the inclusion because it is hard to say whether it will threaten the Chinese language. They believe the selection is mostly a result of their function and use in daily life.

Although some common expressions of English have been integrated into our daily life, their recent inclusion into our dictionary still stirs a massive debate among scholars, some positive while others negative.
Personally, I strongly support this practice for two reasons. I believe it will have a positive influence on Chinese education. This is because China is quickly becoming a super power of the world and what is most important is that it will hasten the learning process of language students. Exposure to the English language which is used in our daily life can make people familiar with them. What’s more, English has also borrowed words from other languages and I don’t see why Chinese can’t do so. Last but not least, this is for the benefit of increased interaction and understanding among all the peoples.
It therefore seems natural to add these new expressions to the language as western culture and Chinese culture continue to merge through the increased contact and diversification of societies.

The picture shows us a touching moment when a little girl comes to greet her working mom. Realizing her mom must be very tired after a day’s work, the girl helps to remove the bag from her shoulder. In response, the mom kneels down to show how happy and thankful she feels.
All this reminds me of my mother who has been doing whatever she could to let me have the best. But, totally engaged in my own study, I seldom pay attention to what mother needs and feels, and always think studying well is the only thing I could do in return. Now I know I can do my bit to help with the everyday washing, bedroom cleaning, or at least prepare breakfast myself, so as to share mother’s daily burden. The picture convinces me it is even more important to be a good daughter than a “good” student.
