III.短文的阅读。(60) ( A ) Living and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher. If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve anything. Communication begins with the concerns of another. It means that you can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore (不理睬) everyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance (表达)of information, correspondence (通信), means of communication: a letter or a message”. To maintain a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note. When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse. This is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, not when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad and let the incident go. Communication is the key factor here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble. Communication isn’t a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, telling the other person how you feel-listening is the key factor to communication. 1. In the writer’s view, dealing with parents is __________ than with children. A. more difficult B. easier C. more uninteresting D. more interesting 2. The main idea of the second paragraph is __________. A. the importance of friendship B. to make your feeling known to others C. the importance of communication D. the disagreement between generations 3. When parents and children are in communication, the key to a happy relationship is that __________. A. children should always obey their parents B. they should be equal C. parents play the leading part D. both make the opposite know their feelings 4. The example in this passage proves that ___________. A. Sophie’s parents are willing to listen to her B. Sophie is very polite to her parents C. Sophie did well in explaining her being late D. communication is the solution(解决办法) to misunderstanding 5. All the following statements are correct except “_______”. A. If you don’t agree with others, you’d better let them know B. It is better to say “Hi” to others than say nothing C. If you are not able to communicate, walk away D. Communication is a two-way deal (B) It feels like every time my mother and I start to have a conversation, it turns into an argument. We talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly, my mother will push the conversation into World War III. She’ll talk about my lack of a bright future because I don’t plan to be a doctor. And much to her disappointment, I don’t want to do any job related to science, either. In fact, when I was pushed to say that I planned to major in English and communications, she nearly had a heart attack. “Why can’t you be like my co-worker’s son?” she bemoans all the time. Her co-worker’s son received a four-year scholarship and is now earning 70,000 dollars a year as an engineer. I don’t know what to answer except that I simply can’t be like Mr. Perfect as I’ve called the unnamed co-worker’s son. I can’t be like him. I’m the type of person who loves to help out in the community, write until the sun goes down, and most of all, wants to achieve a career because I love it, not because of fame (名声) or salary. I understand why my mother is worried about my future major. I’ve seen my mother struggle to raise me on her small salary and work long hours. She leaves the house around 6:30 am and usually comes home around 5 pm or even 6 pm. However, I want her to know that by becoming a doctor, it doesn’t mean I’ll be successful. I’d rather follow my dreams and create my own future. 6. Which of the following topics do the writer and his mother often talk about? A. The writer’s studies. B. The writer’s future job C. Dinner plans D. Wars around the world 7. We can infer from Paragraph 1 that the writer’s mother ____________. The underlined word “bemoans” in Paragraph 2 most probably means _____________. A. agrees B. shouts C. complains D. smiles 9. Which of following statements is probable TRUE about the writer? A. He wants to be like his mother’s co-worker’s son. B. He wants to find a job in his community in the future. C. He doesn’t think his mother’s co-worker’s son is perfect. D. He wants to do something he really likes in the future. 10.What kind of person am I? A. I am ambitious. B.I care about fame C. I want to be a doctor. D.I love to help out in the community. (C) In today’s Internet age, the demand for online games continues to grow. Online computer game centers exist in many cities and towns throughout Asia. Facing the pressures of school and life, people tend to the virtual world, expecting a diversion from these problems. Too often, however, they can lead to problems and unhealthy addictions. This is most clearly seen in the example of South Korea. The country has the world’s highest percentage of high-speed Internet services. It also has a high number of online game players and related problems. In 2002, a young man collapsed(突然晕倒) and died while playing online games. He had been playing almost nonstop for 86 hours at an Internet café. Another young man killed his sister after becoming confused between the online world and real life. A 12-year-old boy stole US $ 16,000 from his father and ran away from home. He did this to continue his obsession(着迷) with an online game. Such problems, however, don’t just happen in South Korea. They are spreading to other parts of Asia, as well. What kinds of people develop online game addiction? What does the problem look like? Dr. SueHuei Chen, a clinical psychologist, researches Internet addiction. She discovered some signs of at-risk individuals such as lack friendships and good social skills. Those problem individuals feel it so compulsive to play online games that they could sacrifice things such as school or family. They feel the need to spend more and more time online. And they become upset if anyone tries to limit their online game playing. How many problem game players are there? In mainland China, the potential number of problem online gamers is alarming. In 2004, the China daily reported that China had 13.8 million online game players. Furthermore, it stated that 80 percent of these were under 25 and had signs of addiction. Such numbers point toward a growing problem among Chinese youth. Make sure to keep control over your online game playing. If you don’t control it, it can get control of you. 11.What is mainly discussed in the passage? A.The disadvantages of the Internet. B.The online game problems in Asia. She wish that he was as easy to please as her mother, who was always delighted with perfume Besides, shopping at this time of the year was a most disagreeable experience :people trod on your toes, poked you with their elbows and almost knocked you over in their haste to get to a bargain ahead of you.
