This thesis adopts Nida’s translation theory of functional equivalence as the theoretical basis of hotel name translation, which emphasizes the reappearance of source message from semantics to style by using the closest natural equivalent language, efficiently attracts the consumers in the target language, arouses the beautiful association and living desire and produces the equivalent or basic equivalent publicity effect as the readers of source text. Based on the collection, analysis, contrast and review of 274 Chinese hotels and some Western hotels’ names and related translated names in this thesis, 4 ways of hotel name translation are firstly reached, namely, literal translation, transliteration, free translation and recreation. Secondly, translation principles and notices are put forward.
