Daisy’s Dual Image in The Great Gatsby
Daisy is the heroine in the great The Great Gatsby .She is the narrator
Nick’s cousin ,Tom Buchanan’s wife, Gatsby’s lover .She is always in
white , enchanting and moving as a holy angel lands to the world . Many
men fall in love with her .especially Gatsby. However, she is also
frivolous, money first, callosity. Just like an evil. She gives Gatsby a
sweet dream which is never realized. She is the symbol of American
Dream and the typical delegate of Jazz Age and Gold-plated Girl. Daisy’s
dual image let Gatsby lost himself. He mistook Daisy as his fairy princess,
until destroyed. Now let’s analyze Daisy’s dual image.
Outside angel, inside dissolute
Daisy is young and beautiful. In the novel she always appears as a
angel in white image. In the first chapter, when Nick first saw Daisy ,
dressed in a white skirt, laying on the sofa. She use low voice talk with
Nick. Nick learn from others that she in low voice, the purpose is to let
other men close to her. In the fifth chapter, Nick invite Daisy to his home,
the real purpose is to let her meet Gatsby. But she said: “don’t you love
me?” In chapter six Daisy and Nick attend a party in the Gatsby’s. Daisy
said to Nick: “I was so excited. Nick, if you want to kiss me tonight, seek
me at any time. I’d like to help you. Just give me a signal.” Her every
word, every look and every action is to tease all others. When Daisy mete

Gatsby again, after a long time. She told him that she still love him. It let
Gatsby crazy about her once again. But he will never know that she just a
dream that he can never realize.
Surface enthusiasm, cold hearted
In Nick’s eyes, Daisy is a passion and full of energy. She has a pair
of charming eyes and a passionate mouth. When she try to set Nick and
Jordan, she is so warm-heart. She give people the feeling of sweet and
lovely, romantic and warm. But, the appearance of hot just disguises her
empty inside, boring and cold. Her life in addition to drink and play and
endless gossip, no other outside things to do, she only concern is "What is
doing this afternoon?" "What will we do the day after tomorrow?" "After
30 years?" Even in her own flesh and blood, she also showed deserts
don’t care.When Nick and she accidentally talked about children; she
doesn't like the other mother said to the children of invigorating, she
shows is a passive, just use the tone of that said:
"If guessed wrong, she should have will speak, and what all can eat. I
hope she is a fool-this is a girl in the world, the best way out when a
beautiful fool."

Appearance lady, inner demon
In Gatsby’s eyes Daisy is the first lady he knew. She is beautiful,
moving and unusual. Daisy’s this lady image left a deep impression in
Gatsby’s heart. In order to win Daisy heart once again, he get lots of
money through league means. Gatsby bought a luxury villa across
Daisy’s house. Every weekend he had big party in order to get her
attention. When Daisy Drave a car killed Tom’s lover. Gatsby still
showed no doubt of his love. He stays outside Daisy’s window all night
and willing to take all responsibilities for Daisy. But in the house Daisy
and her husband are conspiring to the death to Gatsby who love her so
much. Finally, Gatsby dead for Wilson’s shot. After Gatsby dead, Daisy
and her husband disappeared.
Daisy’s lady image and her snobbish, selfish, sinister ugly face form
a bright contrast. It was also her beautiful appearance and the lady image
let Gatsby lost direction and destroyed his life.
